teachermom2834
I'm trying to make sure I have all the right paperwork signed and in place for the kids away at college. Ds filled out the FERPA release and put it in the mail. We'll confirm it is in place at this school before we leave from dropping him off. HIPPA I am more confused about. I printed up a generic HIPPA release form but I am confused as to what needs to be done with it. I'll keep a copy but it seems like any health care provider he might use would need this form. So we can put one one file at his student health center but what if he ends up in a hospital or getting treatment elsewhere? How does this work? Or do we just need power of attorney to cover any scenario? What else do we need in place? I feel like I've been reading the warnings about these forms and the nightmare scenarios of a kid in need and parents can't get info. But the specifics aren't always well explained. whitestavern
I work at a law firm, and here is a newsletter one of the attorneys just wrote that explains all of the different docs and why you might need them. Hope it helps: http://kkc-law.com/files/PDFs/College Preparation Tips.pdf
