ETA Do you have a link to the thread with the back story?

I would also like to read the back story!

This isn't the very first thread, when Creekland first found the sick kitty, but it's from 2014 and it includes a bit of the backstory.

Ok, getting on to tell school1777 that JoJo looks awesome!  I went back and reread the original thread and it sure brought back memories.  He is one lucky kitty.  I'm so glad your mom was there for him and you were able to put us in contact with each other.

Otherwise... for those who emailed requesting updates (and letting me know about the picture):

Oldest son is still doing well, working in IT, married and with two grandkittens for us.  He lives a few states away, but we got to see him during a last hurrah vacation with my mom and all three boys this past March.  When we're there we enjoy playing Terraforming Mars together - and enjoy the grandkittens, of course!

Middle son - he's my med school lad having just finished his first year - is currently in the Philippines on a medical mission trip.  His group (38) has medical, dental, and vision folks associated with it and are expecting to see 2500 folks in something like 7 days.  He tells us it's quite rainy there... but he's happy to be on the trip.  Their first clinic day was today.  I haven't heard yet how that has gone.  This past summer his long time GF broke up with him (sigh) so if anyone is in the Rochester area and looking for a future awesome husband... just saying.  He's the one of my three that we'd have thought was the "best catch" as he's very considerate, outgoing, smart, CLEAN, faithful, and anything else one could want.  I suppose the only con could be his becoming a doctor and the time constraints that adds to a relationship, but seriously - my heart goes out for him esp since...

Youngest son graduated from Eckerd and just got engaged this past week to a wonderful young lass.  They're getting married next summer and we're happy to welcome her into our family!   Currently my guy is here at our farm transforming it into a permaculture farm while working for actual cash at a local restaurant.  We'll see what happens after they get married.  I believe her plans are law school with the future intent to work with refugees and/or against human trafficking.  I could easily see my lad following her, but they might also choose to live here.

Hubby still works in engineering.  We had planned to start wandering more - esp over the winter - but now have to look warily at the bank account while thinking about the upcoming wedding.  We may have to wait an additional year.

My mom is losing her battle with cancer, but hasn't lost it yet.  We had high hopes for immunotherapy since she had already beaten the odds of surviving longer than a year (something they more or less guaranteed wouldn't happen - grr!), but so far the immunotherapy doesn't seem to be working at all.  We'll know for sure in Sept.  They're giving it one last chance (3 month stint).  After that, we don't think there's anything left to try.

My MIL is in a home now that works well for her and FIL.  She's the one with end stage Alzheimers.  She's on Hospice and we know it's just a matter of time.  FIL has gotten used to it all and is getting to live his life with more than just trying to take care of her.  At 90 years of age, all he does is impressive.  He does not sit on his keister!  Nonetheless, he has severe heart issues of his own and we know any day could be his last too.  Such is life.

We spend a bit of our time at both places - then tuck some time in back here at home too as we can.  We still have ponies, but are working to sell the rest so if anyone wants two broodmares (one with a foal, one still due) and a stallion, be sure to let me know!  We also have two really nice looking yearlings - they should sell next year as two year olds.

For me?  I signed up to teach again at school, though I wasn't sure about it merely due to being ready to move on from teaching (mid life crisis?).  I'm not sure when I last updated... Late last fall I found out the Navy was incorrect 30 years ago saying I had asthma (another super grr as that incredibly changed my life).  Since the symptoms I thought were related to that aren't, I finally got around to requesting a cardiologist referral today - literally, right before getting on here.  I suppose I'll be on the hunt for a cardiologist who will check out vascular (vs radiation side effects) as it's super annoying to be losing the ability to do everyday (for me) things.  If anyone knows someone good somewhere near south central PA, be sure to let me know.  If they find nothing I guess my Plan B is to beach walk until I can't anymore.  Most hills are already out.  Small ones are still ok, but the after effects of larger ones (or jogging or carrying heavy things) is really starting to get to my mental well being - esp when I just get told "you're out of shape."

And... about letting me know.  That may be a toughie considering I had to remember an ancient email address to be able to log in here.  We don't use that one anymore (haven't for quite some time), so... no notifications from there.  I will try to remember to check in on this board at least until this thread dies down.  I am a little more free this week (at home - no boys here) than most.

I hope all is going along ok with folks here.  If I get more time later today or tomorrow I'll possibly scan for some update threads myself.  Feel free to point me to any as well...

Creekland, glad to hear from you! I was thinking of you this week and wondering how your son is doing in med school. My dd is just starting her first year Monday. Your son sounds like a perfect fit for my dd, but alas, she isn't near your son and she seems to have selected a different young man, though we'll see how med school affects their relationship.

Would you tell me if gifts are appropriate at a White Coat Ceremony? DD's is coming up next month and I'm not sure what the protocol is. Med school stuff is very far out of my realm!

Hi Creekland!  Nice to see you!  Congratulations on the soon-to-be DIL!

I liked the cardiologist I saw just fine, but I wouldn’t say I loved him.  Perfectly nice and seemed competent but not someone I’d rave about like I would about my nephrologist lol  I hope you find someone good!

I wanted to let you know that a drug called Udenifil is in clinical trial right now with young cardiac patients. It is formulated to dialate the cardivascular system in the lungs only, and it is hoped that it will increase exercise endurance. The study will be over in a year. I just thought that I’d throw that out there for you to keep in the back of your mind.

Thanks!  I'll keep it in mind, but at this point I'm just trying (again) to get someone to look into it.  I'm as confused as the next person as to what is actually wrong - esp since the previous "theory" fit in so perfectly - but the difference is I KNOW something is off.  Powers that Be dismiss it.  I feel a little better having watched an NBC Today Show segment on gender bias with medical treatment last week.  In a way it's nice to know it's not just "me."  Of course, in another way it's a big WTH moment...

Of course, my data point is one (ceremony), but the most we saw with people and gifts were some parents bringing flowers for young gals.  Not everyone had something.  We didn't specifically give my guy anything for the ceremony, but of course we helped out with muscle power and financially getting him set up in his apartment.

That seems to be the best I'm getting around here.  The one fellow teacher who loved her DH's cardiologist gave me her name, but it seems she's morphed into a teaching position at Hershey and nowhere did I see that she was accepting new patients.  I spelled out (briefly) what I'm looking for with my PCP.  Perhaps she'll have suggestions I can consider.

Or... I am seriously wondering about heading to U Rochester later in the year.  At least there my lad has connections at this point so I should be able to jump over the believability issue.  What little he has asked about (for me) certainly hasn't been dismissed.  He's one of my biggest supporters and is basing that upon some things he's learned.  His connections can't believe what's going on here - how quickly things are dismissed without even simple testing.  It gives me a little faith to think our medical system works somewhere - just not here I guess if one is female, otherwise healthy and fit, and doesn't have something run of the mill.

Yay, great to hear from you Creekland!  Thanks for the update!  Too bad you're not in the midwest.  (My brother is a pulmonary cardiologist.)

Congrats on the upcoming wedding!

Also, I have two single dd's who just might be looking for a good husband -- one out east and one in the midwest.  ???

Ah, it's often distance that's the problem (sigh).

At least as a small update my PCP seems to have agreed that I should see a cardiologist.  Actually getting the referral to be able to make an appt is proving to be a little tougher. ?  I won't have time to get it checked into until probably Sept or Oct, so I suppose there's no rush.  I just figured with the length of time it takes to see a specialist that I ought to be starting the process this week when I'm home.  We leave again (to go to my mom's) next week.
