Rosetta Stone or similar programs for French

Rosetta Stone vs. Duolingo?  Not worth the expense, IMO.  Our time with RS was filled with buggy discs and poor customer service, and I don't have much hope for them now that they've switched to a subscription service.  Duolingo is very comparable to what they offer and they do it for free.  I didn't bother much with Mango when we were in areas that had it because I wanted consistency, so I'm not as familiar with it it.

However, our library here has Muzzy and I have found that to be worth their cost.  But, I don't know if we would do their subscription at this point.  We currently do One Third Stories (slow adding of French vocabulary through English stories), First Step En Francais videos, and reading/writing exercises meant for French schools. In September he is starting a formal curriculum.

Thanks!  Does anyone know of any French language learning podcasts?

Oooh, I like this question as we've just recently ventured into podcasts (only Wow in the Wolrd by NPR thus far) but are a Francophone family & would LOVE additional languge input!

My husband found slow news in French on one of the French news websites. It's just the day's news read a bit more slowly and simply. I think there are two or three levels. If I can find the actual site I'll link it. If you prefer to not have your kids hear adult level news, that won't work, though.

Are any of these sufficiently awesome versus programs like Duolingo and Mango to be worth the expense.  My children are taking French lessons once a week, but I’d like to have something for the 4th and 5th grader to do at home a bit to reinforce what they’re learning.

Are they studying daily?

Oznoz is kids' TV in the target language. $30 a quarter. Lots of shows. That provides more verbal instruction and would not jump out of order from the tutoring.
