Jenkins
I am thinking of having my older kids notebook through their history spines. Has anyone done this? I am not sure what it looks like day to day. Was it successful for learning or extra busy work? I am really trying to teach my kids independence and I hope this will help.
regentrude
I required my kids to take notes from their history reading. I find this a very useful skill. They have to read, comprehend, and extract the most important information - an essential skill for college. In addition to learning this, writing notes is also a great tool for retention. Before kids are proficient at this, they may need some feedback, because beginners usually write down too much and don't discern between main information and less important points. Some people teach formal outlining; I don't and have never used it myself. It's not the only way to accomplish the goal.
