hollyhock2
DS16 is going to do this in fall. Just wondering if anyone else has done it recently (or not recently) and what you thought of it? I'm not looking to do a super rigorous chem so I'm hoping it's doable for average folk. ?
HomeAgain
We found it difficult. I wanted more user-friendly aspects than it had, and we ended up supplementing with other sources to round it out better and slow parts of it down so that my kid grasped the material. It's been about 6 years, but I remember that the amount of information packed in needed to be reviewed heavily.
EKS
We never used it because I couldn't get past the ridiculous font.

I looked at it just now--the Comic Sans is annoying, but it was the other font (I think it's Jester) that put me over the edge.
hollyhock2
HomeAgain, how old was your child when you did Mr. Q?

The math part ended up being the easiest. It was the science part of it he had trouble with. The program goes quickly and with minimal waste of time, but we found that even though he had chemistry through another program (level 2 of Noeo - an introduction), it ramped up considerably. Overall, it ended up being a poor fit for us as it was written. I really wanted to like it. We slowed it down, took it at half speed and added in other supplements for trouble spots, took a long review before tests, and completed most of the program before calling it quits for the year. ETA: For my next kid, I have this on the radar instead: https://www.centripetalpress.com/product/principles-of-chemistry/

Nancy in NH
I used it for my DS a few years ago. He got through it ok, but only because I supplemented with another science book (Spectrum Chemistry) that my other DS used. The biggest problem we ran into was concepts being introduced that seemed out of sequence, so I found myself explaining things to my son that hadn't been brought up yet in order for him to understand the new concept (and which is why I kept grabbing for Spectrum). I can't remember any specific instances now, but it happened at least a few times, maybe more.
