goldenecho
So, I just found out my child has ADHD (inattentive type, not hyperactive type). What are your top suggestions for books and articles to read (or videos to watch, or podcasts to listen to)?
PeterPan
I hope the results you got were helpful. We've had some book lists in the past. SuperParenting by Hollaway, anything by Holloway really. Freed's book Right-Brained Children in a Left-Brained World. Anything for EF like That Crumpled Paper was My Homework. Meds. Like just give up and get meds, lol. Genetic testing to solve comorbid rabbit trails. Tech to integrate functions and empower them. I don't know, I'm not much of a podcast person. Mainly read divergently and pull things that sound like they'd empower your dc. If you have reason to think it would be useful, SocialThink.com has everything you can imagine for anything social thinking stemming from the ADHD. Lots of free articles there. They're going to recommend 360Thinking (good stuff!), MindWings/Story Grammar Marker, etc. Mainly, keep it positive and empower.
kbutton
Smart But Scattered Late, Lost, and Unprepared anything by Russell Barkley--you'll definitely be able to find videos of him as well Don't believe all the negative press on meds, but do realize that responses can vary from brand name to generic and from generic to generic even if you get the right meds. It can take more than one try and some dosage tweaking. Meds helped my kids be able to handle some targeted intervention, but prior to the meds, it was like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic to teach effective coping strategies or even know if they were listening, lol! It's not unusual for kids with ADHD to have "something else" going on as well, though it certainly does occur as a solo issue. But be open to realizing that if you get the ADHD to a workable place, you might find other interesting things come to light as well.
kbutton
Oh, and Peg Dawson has some other more technical books than Smart But Scattered, and they are very, very good. I forgot to mention FLIPP The Switch and books about the Five Point Scale.
