8filltheheart
We just found out today that my dh's company has agreed to let our ds stay on our health insurance even though he turned 26. They authorized him for 2 more yrs and they will review again in 2020. This is such a blessing.

ElizabethB
Wow, you are a bureaucracy fight winning Guru, impressive!!! Who knew that you could even try this, let alone conquer!! I am happy for you, and truly impressed. How many hours of work did it take? You could probably write a full book about the process...
8filltheheart
We didn't know if it was at all possible. Dh went and talked with HR when ds was turning 26. They gave him a packet that needed to be completed within a limited number of days. We had to provide his neuropsy eval, an eval by our MD, a financial analysis of how much support we were providing, and an explanation as to why we weren't claiming him as a dependent (saying we are stupid wasn't good enough . We had to explain how we were clueless as to the different processes for seeking assistance and we were also in denial about how he would never be able to function independently), and a letter detailing what we observed as his parents. Everything was then reviewed by their medical dept, and they approved it. It is soooooo huge. He works full-time but his insurance has a $6000 deductible, only 80% coverage after that. He only makes $8/hr and would have had to 10% of his income toward purchasing the insurance in the first place.
