G5052
I've been teaching online at the college level for over a decade. Students take their exams in the testing center or with an approved proctor on their own time. This is CLEARLY identified in the syllabus, on the testing page, and in my announcements. I even say "Take Exam 1 on or before XXX." Here's the email exchange with a few details changed: I cannot take the test on Saturday. I have to work Saturday. How many points will you count off if I take off if I take it Friday. I won't take off any points. You can take it anytime on or before the deadline. What if I take it Thursday? I won't take off any points if you take it on Thursday. Thursday is two days before the deadline. What if I get sick on Thursday? Will you count off if I take it on Saturday? I won't take off any points if you take it on Saturday or any day before. You decide what day to take it. So to confirm, I can take it Friday? Yes, Friday is fine. Make sure the testing center is open when you go and bring a photo ID.
teachermom2834
My dh teaches with the same setup. He explains the procedure several times yet he still gets people show up at the test center without an appointment, trying to use mom as a proctor, trying to take it after the deadline, people emailing him saying they didn't know there was a midterm, etc etc.
