workbook to teach how to study for tests?

Recommended Posts

My 6th grader is a bit clueless in this area and I'm not having much luck explaining it to her (not to mention I mostly intuited how to study...and that was a long time ago...so I'm not great at even knowing WHAT to try to explain). She tends to have trouble even figuring out answers for fill-in-the-blank questions unless they're really straightforward...which adds to her difficult with test-taking...so maybe she needs to work on that too. I'm the complete opposite in that area and I have no idea how to help her.

Critical Thinking Company has a book called Thinking Skills for Tests. Has anyone tried it?

I'm not sure what kind of test taking the OP is referring to.  Math tests, spelling test, vocab, standardized testing?

We didn't use Thinking Skills for Tests, but I had my boys do CTC's Building Thinking Skills Levels 1 and 2.  I don't plan to use anymore of them, but they were good through 6th grade.  If the OP is talking about standardized test taking, I just grab some spectrum test practice books for that.

It's not a workbook, but it has exercises throughout and is my favorite book on the subject: What Smart Students Know: Maximum Grades. Optimum Learning. Minimum Time. https://www.amazon.com/dp/0517880857/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_eXqSAbC9Q0EX7

Also, the 2nd edition of The Great Courses Super Star Student is good.
