If the students can't see the posts and he's not using real names, I don't see a problem. In two of the states we've lived in, students couldn't be FB friends with teachers until they graduated. He's not talking about them, he's "speaking" directly to specific students. I can't imagine they aren't in the group, meant to see it. And of course the OP saw it, and her son is a student. They are probably not Facebook friends directly, but rather all are members of a group specifically tied to either the theater in general or this specific play.
