Elizabeth86
Ds was supposed to have his birthday party tomorrow, but currently has a 103 fever. We already order his cake from a grocert store bakery. If we cancel the party, can we freeze his cake and save it for later?
UmMusa
I've frozen unfrosted cakes successfully many times, but I hesitate to give you a confident yes on a cake that's likely already frosted. Ask the bakery.
eagleynne
I'm pretty sure you can. I've bought frozen cakes before so it must be possible. I will say that, while it was still good, it did not have the same texture as a cake that hadn't been frozen.
J-rap
My mother does this all the time. She even froze the top of our wedding cake for 25 years, and then took it out on our 25th wedding anniversary and we ate part of it. It looked pretty darn good still, but of course had a bad freezer burn taste!
Starr
I found lots of directions online. Google, how or can I freeze a frosted cake. But I would check with the bakery first and see if you can delay your order .
gardenmom5
some cakes freeze - their frosting generally not so well. a grocery store bakery - I wouldn't bother even trying.
Carol in Cal.
Yes, we did the traditional 'save the top of the wedding cake in the freezer for our first anniversary' thing, and it was really good. We froze it with no plastic on it, overnight, and then double wrapped it after it was frozen very solid.
Elizabeth86
Thanks ladies. I think we are just going to hope for the best he isn't feverish tomorrow. Ugh please say a prayer for my little man.
nevergiveup
I thought some professional bakers swear that freezing a cake makes for a better cake. They were probably referring to an unfrosted cake, though... That being said, heck, I would eat the cake and then order another for when your son is feeling better. The more cake the better in my world.....
