Popular Post mom@shiloh
This kid fought me, dragged his feet, whined, complained and threw educational temper tantrums through all thirteen years of home education. All of my high educational ideals toppled and survival became the new goal. He's my sixth, and by far the hardest yet. Huge sigh of relief when he graduated. The first week of college I thought I might have to figuratively hold his hand through the whole thing and encouraged him to just hang in there and any passing grade was fine by me. And then...... he flew. He loved the class discussions, he studied regularly, he took academics seriously. He told me (gasp!) that writing papers was his favorite part. One day he was thrilled to find a way to use the word 'paradox' in his writing and was grateful that he knew what it meant. His first semester GPA? 3.55. Absolutely, positively stunned. Hang in there, moms of reluctant learners.
edelweiss
That is wonderful! I love hearing that story. I seriously worry about how my older daughter will do in college. I hope she has a success story like your son.

G5052
My youngest was a good student in high school, but has had a lot of challenges outside of school in the last few years. She did all online classes because of that, and I was concerned. She got one "B" and the rest were "A" grades, even in math. Whew!

readinmom
Awesome! Same story with younger ds, learning disability, hated school. Had a good gpa and managed to play his sport, also. I'm sure it will be more of a challenge as he moves on, but a small celebration here! Edited January 3, 2018 by readinmom

2ndGenHomeschooler
Thanks for sharing! I have one that I’m dragging through 8th grade right now. I’m apprehensive about the next four years but your post has reminded me that she’ll most likely grow up and pursue her goals with drive, determination, and even enjoyment. So it was not him, it was you, huh? ;) Just kidding. :) You lit the fire of learning in him. Pat yourself for a job well done. RootAnn
I'm almost sobbing in relief for you. Or, maybe they are tears of joy. What a great story (the ending!).
