Mailing an official transcript by the admissions deadline??

For one of the colleges to which my son is applying, I just read on their website that they require an official transcript to be submitted before the application deadline.  "This should be sent by your school online or can be mailed."

The application deadline is January 2, so ack!!  Does this mean that I need to FedEx the transcript tomorrow so it arrives in their office on Tuesday, January 2?  Or can it just be postmarked on January 2?  I thought we just needed to submit the transcript through the Common App.  (This school uses the Common App.)  Thanks for any advice!

I submitted all my "official" transcripts through the counselor section of the Common App.

I would think online submission from the schools is the same.

As far as the school perspective, I don't see how you mailing one is any more official than the online submission through the common app and I would think they'd prefer everything submitted together through the Common App.

All the schools to which my two daughters have applied did require transcripts to be sent separately from the Common App. I would call the school first thing on January 2 and confirm. If you can e mail, that will be easy enough, though sometimes there is a special service that the schools use.

I submitted DS's transcript through the Common App with no issues (he's already been accepted). Just make sure it says "OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT" on it, and includes your signature.

(Mine also included a little blurb saying "ABC Academy is a home education program legally operated in accordance with XYZ State Statute 123-456. This signature certifies that the information in this transcript is true, accurate, and complete." Probably not necessary, but a few people recommended it, so I included it.)
