thundersweet
Is there a program out there that does this? I want to get my 4yo started. I like HWT but the whole first book is all capitals. My plan now is to just teach lower case letters the way SWR does it. I was thinking though, it would be nice to have a program where he did a page or so a day similar to HWT. Thanks, Sandy
stripe
I can't tell you much but I know that Getty & Dubay's Italic series shows lower case first, one letter at a time.
athena1277
"A Reason For Handwriting" K begins with lowercase. My dd just finished it. It gives one letter a day and is not too much writing, so it would probably work well even for a 4 yr old.
AnneC
We skipped the first HWT book for that very reason. My kids had no trouble starting with the first printing book.
Bambam
I used Startwrite to print out worksheets for daily practice. The nice thing about Startwrite is that you can print it out in really big fonts for young writers (i.e 96pt). There is another program called Educational Fontware which also might be useful. AnnetteB
The free alphabet pages from first-school are fun for teaching both upper and lowercase at once http://www.first-school.ws/THEME/alphabetp2.htm We start them off young with an awareness that names and first words begin with a "Big" letter. Rainbows
is it the pre-k or the kindergarten HWT book that only teaches capital letters?
Jumping In Puddles
The Kindergarten HWT book covers both capitals and lower case but starts with capital letters. If you really like HWT, then there is no reason you can't start HWT kindergarten with the lower case letters! It even says so in the teachers manual that if you are more comfortable with that, then do it. I didn't like the idea of capitals first either but decided to give it a try and my son FLEW through the capitals so quickly and then started to take his time on the lower case. I think the way HWT teaches the letter formation is brilliant but that may be because my son really thrived with it. He went from (2 months ago) only knowing how to write "Will" to writing all the letters and copying sentences and paragraphs with ease.
