Alessandra
Happy Thanksgiving! Will be cooking our first fresh-killed turkey today. Did most of food prep earlier in the week, thank goodness. Setting our table with our fall-winter china, vintage and newer Spode Woodland, which has game birds and other animals. We have soup tureen in shape of a turkey that we use as a centerpiece and a number of turkey shaped covered vegetable dishes that I like, not only for looks, but because they keep food warm. I will try to eat only one dessert per day, as opposed to four desserts in one sitting, lol, because I need to be healthier. But I may ask for as spoonful from kids plates -- the cook needs to taste, right? Talk about a conflict of interest! I am just about to print up our menu cards, a Thanksgiving prayer from Dear Abby, and a card with just a little turkey on top -- we each write what we are grateful for. http://www.uexpress.com/dearabby/2000/11/23/a-time-to-give-our-thanks Edited November 23, 2017 by Alessandra
MysteryJen
Happy Thanksgiving! I am grateful for all of you! Pink and Green, have a wonderful trip! I have most of the food at dmil’s house and I am heading over in 30 minutes to start the turkey. After dinner and clean up, we are headed to my mom’s for dessert. Have a great day!
Jean in Newcastle
Jean, how is your dd doing with the celiac? She’s ok. The celiac part is fairly easy for us since the whole family has gone gluten free. The extended family get -together on Saturday might be a bit challenging food wise, though. But she fainted again two days ago. We just don’t have definitive answers on that issue. (It could be just low blood pressure but it doesn’t totally fit that).
Selkie
Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for the Tackle thread and everyone on it! Wishing all of you a wonderful holiday. Pink and Green, happy anniversary! Hope your trip is fun and relaxing! •I have the appetizers prepped and ready to go and will serve them around noon. Dd is making her traditional vegetarian pigs in a blanket. :) •Turkey will go in the oven at noon •Stuffing is already prepared and I'll make the mashed potatoes and gravy this afternoon •Pies are made and I just need to assemble one other dessert (a white chocolate and shortbread parfait) •Planning to watch the dog show while I cook •Hoping to squeeze in a horseback ride this afternoon! •Lounge around and relax

I will keep that on my prayer list.
Pink and Green Mom
I hope your daughter is feeling better, Jean! So all my food is in the oven or was prepared earlier this week. I can relax until the turkey comes out and I have to make gravy, mash the potatoes, and saute the green beans and tomatoes. Our company arrives at 2:30 so hopefully I can put my feet up for a few minutes in the next hour or so. Only 2 sections left on DS16's paper to make "suggestions." What he does with those suggestions is up to him. I have a few choice suggestions for him that have nothing to do with his paper....
Lawyer&Mom
We were going to MIL's house for Thanksgiving until Dd2 starting puking yesterday. But I went to the fancy grocery store this morning at 7:00 am and was able to get everything we need for a last minute mini-feast at home. Store made mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, half a cherry pie, a turkey breast to cook... And no lines! Success! Wishing you all a great day!
Elizabeth86
An easy day for me. I purposefully chose items I could make/prep the day before so I wouldn't be rushing around today. We are having dinner at my parents this evening when dh gets home from wotk.

Lawyer&Mom
Okay, my attempt at gluten free, dairy free stuffing was kind of a bust. (My childhood recipe involves heavy cream!) Bland and blah. But whatever, I'm sure it will taste good smothered in gravy.

Selkie
We're done, too. Whew, I'm tired of cooking. I'm about to go lie on the couch and watch a Hallmark mystery.
