Winter shoes that aren't boots

Recommended Posts

I know some of you shoe hounds out there have some winter favorites--please share! I'm looking for shoes for winter that aren't boots, that I can walk a lot in and be comfortable, but are stylish. What are your favorites?

I'm not looking for simple flats.

Hmmm. The only thing I wear during the winter that aren't boots or flats are sneakers. I have grey low top Converse, navy Vans, and a pair of the new Rifle Keds (which I adore). I have the Kickstart Queen Anne ones. They go with everything and I love wearing gold jewelry when I wear them -- makes me feel coordinated.

I wish those wool clogs were still in style. Those things were the best.

Cute, but terrible on snow/slush/ice.

I'd like a shoe that doesn't completely suck in the elements (but that isn't a boot).

Yes, I'm high jacking this thread apparently.  LOL

I second LL Bean. I love their comfort mocs. I have them in brown and black suede—super comfortable and last forever. They did redesign the women's version, so I ordered the boys' model when I purchased my black ones. I prefer the roomier toes.

Oh, so cute!

Agree with you on the wool clogs.

I had something made by Solomon similar to this for a few years and they worked great.  I'd actually love another pair.  I had them in woman's sizes.

If we still lived where the was snow most the winter, these would be great. But I don't need something that durable. I want something cuter!  :coolgleamA:

I assume you mean not snow boots? Booties are all the rage now and come in a variety of styles.

No, I actually mean not boots--I'm looking for shoes. I have plenty of boots-tall, ankle, heels, no heels. I'm looking for shoes!

I just got Land's End's slimmer women's moc and wore them for the first time yesterday.

I really like them! They're less bulky than the traditional slip-on mocs but they're still sturdy enough. I pair them with wool blend socks in wild prints like these:

Salomon water proof trail runners do well in muddy weather, but I don't think they are really warm enough for snow.  They're cute, though--I always get compliments when I wear mine.  Very colorful but not over the top.  Definitely warmer than, say, canvas sneakers.

I find for cold, slushy weather leather flats with waterproof soles rather than leather ones are my best bet if I don't want to wear boots.  My favorites in that category are made by Earthies, Bjorn, and Sofft.

These would be great with pants:  http://www.earthbrands.com/item/earthies-santana-womens-oxford/49884/PBL

These are the ones I wear most, and they are super comfortable.  They go with suits, flowy skirts, pencil skirts, pants, and jeans.  I have them in four colors and I wear them 6 days per week:  http://www.earthbrands.com/item/earth-shoes-bellwether-leather-ballet-flat/24440/119

I've lost count of how many products I've ordered over the years because The Hive recommended them, but I can add the LL Bean comfort mocs to my list.

I have a pair of Salomon's and love them--will wear them when I work the dogs later today.  Good choice!  :-)

I like both of the shoes that you posted, thanks!

Now I'm looking at these oxfords. I like how sturdy they look, without being a boot. They get good reviews and I can wear great socks like the ones chiguirre posted about.

Those ARE cute.  I tend to walk right out of shoes like that.  For some reason (I think maybe my narrow heel), I do best with flats, tied shoes, or shoes with straps.

I would wear the great socks with the tied shoes for sure, but not as much would show.
