Black Friday Deals?

Recommended Posts

This is a good article about Walmart deals and what is worth while

https://www.kiplinger.com/article/spending/T050-C011-S001-best-walmart-black-friday-doorbusters-deals-2017.html?rid=EML&rmrecid=1883928744

And don't forget to go through a cash back site like Ebates or Befrugal (if anyone needs a link let me know)

Ebates already raised their cash back to lots of stores.   Wishing I hadn't had put in a few orders a week ago.  :(

I use TopCashBack and ebates and swagbucks. I didn't know about Befrugal.

I bought a Toys R Us gift card through swagbucks (they have a couple gift card sites but one doesn't offer as many places) and it said it usually arrives within 2 hours. I got it fairly quickly and used it to finish an order. Apparently you can't shop through swagbucks for TRU but I did the GC through them and then shopped through TopCashBack.

Could you explain how these cash back sites work?

Could you explain how these cash back sites work?

You register at their site (we mostly use ebates) and then go to the site before you shop and click on the link for the store you want to use.  It will tell you how much cash back you can earn and also show available codes for that store.  You then shop from their link and receive cash back several times a year (they send a check every few months).  We've received a lot of money from ebates.  You can also sign up to just go to the store online and the ebates offer will be there for you to click on.

If you sign up, be sure to check to see if you know someone already using it - ebates will give you and the person you sign up with a referral bonus.  If you don't know anyone, please pm me and I'll refer you and we'll both get a bonus!

My 10 year old wants the Switch. We decided "Not this year" There just don't seem to be enough games out there I'd be okay with him playing.

So after talking to him WHY the Switch -- being able to play games multi-player and the Mario Brothers games. HE decided the Mario Brothers games were not a deal breaker and he wants an XBox instead. There's a lot more games for that so we're looking to do that instead

(We have no console system currently)

I really hesitated before getting the 12 y.o. the Switch because of the lack of games.  He already has a Playstation with lots of stuff.  But he had a big growth spurt, and we had to update his golf clubs, tennis racket, shoes and apparel mid year; not to mention the 20 degree camping gear he just got for a school excursion. Simply, ran out of ideas for x-mas. Hope the Switch game options  improve.

You go to their site before you shop online.  And some sites work in person stores too.

It is so easy and it is legit.  We have gotten so much back.  I just got a check back from Ebates yesterday.   Little bits all together add up to something pretty decent.

You can have it sent in a check. Paypal or they give you even more if you get in a giftcard to certain stores.

You get a bonus just for joining and making usually a $25 buck purchase.  You get $10 bucks.   Let me know if you would like a referral to either Ebates or Befrugal

I haven't had a chance to check out Befrugal yet, but once I joined TopCashBack I noticed a better payback with their site more often (comparing it to ebates). I am under the impression that purchases on TopCash take a longer time pending, though. The main difference I can tell between ebates and TopCash is that ebates will only let you get the money at certain intervals and/or when you reach a min. whereas TopCash you can ask them to cut you a check anytime I think. I have not asked for a check yet and have less than $10 there so I don't know if it will make a difference long-term to me. I build up the money so slowly.

Also, most sites have some fine print about coupons not working for building points. I once shopped through a site (I think it was Swagbucks) and used a coupon code that was not theirs. I still got credit on the purchase but it was just less than if I had used one of their coupons or no coupon at all. I don't know if I was supposed to receive any, but I did. I am not sure how it works on other sites. They will usually offer you a few coupon codes, but sometimes they are not what I need and I have another one from retail me not or something.

Groupon sometimes has some deals on gift cards etc. so now I look at Groupon and Living Social and if there's a deal I want I buy the goupon/living social item through swagbucks or one of those cash back sites.

I chatted with the Kohls people online. They are just sold out of the 8 qt right now.

Did you get one yet? Keep checking the site. I saw one listed briefly and now I can't find it again.

If Xbox 360 works, and you have a gamestop nearby, they'll be doing one for $60 on blackfriday with a $60 mail in rebate.

It's becoming harder imo to find the Xbox 360 games, but we own the XBox 360 and I have no desire to upgrade. That sounds like a great deal!

You could also look into the Kinect piece depending on pricing. We have the kinect.

If your kids have any interest in the Disney Infinity set... they no longer have online features but we never used those and I found a LOT of Infinity stuff marked down in the past several months. I honestly forgot about it til this thread. I have some Star Wars infinity stuff hidden in my closet for ds. Just make sure if you buy infinity it's compatible with the game system and whatever version of Infinity you purchase (they have 3).

Check TRU's prices versus the Lego.com prices. They have a tendency to mark up their Lego prices on some sets.

This is so true. TRU is notorious for marking up Lego sets. Pay very close attention to the MSRP on the Lego site.

yep they do, but these were genuine sale prices.  My DS is the human computer when it comes to not only every set he and his siblings own but how much they cost.  He guided me all the way so I knew which were a good deal and which weren't.

I'm hoping the 8 qt. Instant Pot Duo goes on sale somewhere. I've seen lots of good prices for the 6 qt., but I have 4 teenage boys so I need the big one!

Seen any deals on this yet??

So far, in the pre-sales I've gotten some gifts for my daughter. I got a plush bathrobe from CVS, reg $19.99 for $9.99 (similar one she really liked at Target is $30), and a pair of plaid flannel pj bottoms and a bunch of funky socks at Old Navy (they have 50% off total purchase today, with a few exceptions like the stuff up by the register, gift cards, etc). The socks were normally 3 pair sets for $5 and 5 pair sets for $10, so half price was pretty good and they are least half cotton rather than all polyester like so many novelty socks. She loves to wear mismatched fun socks and I've said I ought to do a sock Advent calendar for her this year, since she doesn't like to eat much chocolate, so with this I can actually do it. They had many more patterns in-store than online. I haven't decided yet whether she gets a matching pair or a mismatched pair each day. I even found a set of Halloween ones to hold back for a college care package next October.

Kohl's has some down alternative ones on their black Friday ad for $19....prints and plaids in addition to solids.

Just bought one plus matching pillow shams at Younkers at their sale.  Also picked up a dress.

Yeah I didn't see any good prices really.  The same as on Amazon or Target.

I was looking for a Duo although I am not sure I will use the other features.  I am honestly not sure if would ever care if I couldn't make yogurt in it, but I guess I will keep trying and hope for a good price on the Duo.

This has been a strange year sales wise. Every year I get all my staff, and service people the same gift--something around $30 or so.  I usually start looking for something around September.  I avoid the predictable gift card or wine bottle. This year no keen  item, no great discount. I'm still looking.

Maybe a Google home mini? They'll be $29 lots of places tomorrow.

Ds14 just made his first Black Friday purchase and ordered the $369 HP laptop from Staples. (Staples opens at 7AM tomorrow, but you can order online today and pick up tomorrow. He got the last of 2 laptops in our store so I don't know what in-person shoppers are going to be able to buy tomorrow!) He has been saving for years, so hopefully he's happy with this!

In passed years Amazon has also released a book code on Cyber Monday so maybe that one will be a bit better.

I have 5 books to buy and a $50 gc to Barnes and Noble. Their 20% off an entire order beats Amazon's offer this year for me. Mostly because I have the GC so dont have to spend my own money. This order will complete my Christmas shopping!

Not exactly BF deals, but Land's End has 40% off everything including sale items and 50% off sleepwear. I got a Stormer jacket for Trinqueta for $19 and a packable Navigator rain jacket for $12. Those will be great for rowing and sailing and if they fall in the water I won't be upset. There must be a sandbar of lost jackets, sunglasses and water bottles at sailing camp.

I also got a HP Stream 14 inch laptop with Office 365 included for a year for $200 at Amazon. I missed the Walmart BF deal at $180 but it's still a very good deal because the Office subscription runs $70 and word/ppt are required formats for her schoolwork.

I went out to CVS and grabbed all the freebies this morning. Easy run.

I'm debating Walmart. I'd like some of the cheap movies, the rubbermaid storage set, and the towels. But really not sure if it's worth fighting the crowds tbh.

My friend and I went to Walmart one black friday, not to shop but just to see what it was like. It truly was an experience. We had coffee, no kids, and all the time in the world. We had some wonderful conversations with people happy to be getting a deal but not frantic about it. We also witnessed some nasty behavior and lot of impatience. I don't think I could handle those crowds without accepting that I'd be there for a long time and having an easy-going person there with me to enjoy the time with.
