rainbowmama
One of my kids takes a group music class at a music school. It's not expensive, but it's a requirement for private instruction that my kid takes concurrently, which is expensive. I noticed that we seemed to have a lot of substitutes. The teacher sent out an email today saying that she wouldn't teach again today, that she's had multiple mental health breakdowns over the last week, and is working to put her life back together. Is it likely that this teacher will reliably teach the rest of the year? Is it reasonable to pull my kid and ask for a refund? I feel sympathetic to this woman, but I definitely had the expectation of a consistent teacher for the class, not a revolving door of college students. Catwoman
I would feel sorry for the woman, but I would still ask for the refund based on wanting one consistent teacher for the class. Edited to add: I think it's okay to ask for a refund of future classes, but I don't think it would be fair to request a refund for classes the child has already taken. Arcadia
If it is requirement, is it possible to change to another class? Else I would ask for a refund and a waiver from the group class requirement for my child. My kids attended a music theory group class that was a requirement for those taking private instrument lessons at the music center. My kids had at most one substitute per semester and usually the substitute teacher is the other teacher teaching the same course. The center has two teachers teaching music theory at different time slots so the two teachers could cover for each other if need be.
