Moving to Wisconsin - Anyone else there?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! We have just been told that we are relocating to the Milwaukee area in the next year. We live in San Diego right now. It’s going to be a shock for my kids (4,6,8), who get cold when it hits 60 outside! 😂.

I am looking for tons of information: how is Homeschool regulation in WI? What are good areas to live in that are not too far of a drive from Milwaukee? Does anyone know about FB pages/meetup groups/etc for networking locally? Any other tips that I might not even know to ask about?

I am so excited about this move! I am hoping it comes through sooner rather than later!

I don't live near Milwaukee so I can't recommend areas to live, but I can say that the homeschool regulation in WI is pretty relaxed. We have to fill out a form indicating how many children we are homeschooling and approximate grades (does not even ask for names) and indicate that we will cover the standard range of subjects and that's it. No tests, no portfolios, etc. Once you submit the form, you are done. It's easy and painless.

Good luck with the move and the adjustment. We are getting ready to go out trick-or-treating with winter clothes under the costumes. It's 37 right now with a chance of snow!

WI homeschool laws are pretty relaxed. I don't know of homeschool groups in the Milwaukee area, but there probably are some.  I grew up in West Allis, a Milwaukee suburb. It was a nice place to grow up, but I haven't lived there in a long time.

I found this website about WI Homeschool laws.

And list of homeschool groups in different areas of WI

Make sure you all have warm jackets, boots, snowpants, hats, mittens and scarves.

Wow...exciting. I've lived in Wisconsin most of my life and around Milwaukee. PM me if you like.

There's great homeschool groups near Milwaukee. Let me know what you're looking for and I can recommend some groups. Are you looking for religious affiliation or more liberal groups? THere are a ton of suburbs close to Milwaukee.

In my humble opinion, it totally depends on what your're looking for but here's my list of good suburbs:

Wauwatosa (hip & trendy, lots of parks, close to everything but lots are smaller and not a lot of yard)

White Fish Bay or Shorewood (very close to Milwaukee but kind of cliquey/snobby)

Lake Country (Pewaukee, Hartland, Oconomowoc, Delafield) - about 25 miles West of Milwaukee but offers to much outdoor activity and tons of homeschoolers)

Brookfield (tons of homeschoolers, close to everything but traffic can be a beast)

Others - Franklin, Menomonee Falls, Mequon, Mukwonago, New Berlin, the list is endless!

PM me privately if you want more of my opinion....
