Homeschooling in Los Angeles

Recommended Posts

We are spending the fall semester in Los Angeles.  We arrived about two weeks ago (after an amazing road trip from TN) and have been getting settled in.  My kids had never been west of Nashville and neither DS9 nor DS7 had ever seen the ocean before, so this is all a wonderful adventure.

Anyway, I've been trying to find a listing of homeschool events, park days, etc., but cannot quite figure out how to get connected with other homeschoolers nearby.  I've been looking at various lists, etc., but none of them seem particularly active.  However, today I took the kids to a free homeschool event close by (which I just happened to come across) and another mother there told me that pretty much everyone finds out about things through their charters.  We are obviously not enrolled with a charter, so she was a bit flummoxed about how I might get connected.

Any suggestions from L.A. folks?  We are in Mar Vista.

Although home-based charter schools are very popular in California, there are still more private home educators than charter school families. Check with CHEA, HSC, and CHN
