The Chinese Historian Sima Qian

Recommended Posts

Has anyone included the Chinese historian Sima Qian in readings of the work of early historians? I am wondering what parts might be most interesting or useful to read. Or perhaps you could suggest a book of excerpts.

We have already done Herodotus and Thucydides and are planning to do some more Romans. But I would like to broaden the focus to look at early historians, not just early historians of the west.

Oxford World Classics has a relatively accessible edition of selections from the Historical Records

Sima Qian: The First Emperor

Be sure to read the introduction as it provides good background material.  The book can easily be covered in a week or less.
