My dad who is 11 days post op and on day 7 of augmentin has developed diarrhea. He has been taking florastor since he started the augmentin. Only 1 a day. He has a fantastic dr I am waiting to hear back from, but I'm worried with this sudden onset. He's had 4 episodes today.

Any advice?

Agreeing that C Diff has a distinctive odor, like nothing else. [shudder]

I had recurring, hard to treat C Diff for years. Whenever I suspected a recurrence was brewing I upped my florastor (one a day is not enough, he should be following the package directions at a minimum and probably double those - if he ends up constipated, back down just slightly). I also took garlic caps, oil of oregano, other probiotics away from the supplements, and a few other supplements. Oh, and immediately went to a clear liquid diet. Sometimes this staved off a recurrence, we think.

But - you really need to hear from the doc. I don't think a clear liquid diet and more florastor would hurt in the meantime, either.

I hope it's not C Diff.

The odor isn't always present with c-diff, so I wouldn't rule it out by that alone. Is he running a fever? Any blood?

That's a good point. I did have episodes with no odor, no fever, no blood. It varied greatly. We really had to just watch for all kinds of symptoms.

TMI warning: there was, for me, a texture warning. There was a different texture for a few days before the watery stuff started. So sorry to be graphic. But it was definitely a good warning system.

No fever, no blood. He feels fine. He ate some harder to digest foods yesterday and I'm hoping it just didn't settle well. But I want to be on top of it. I know it can be dangerous. He's older and had a bowel resection. He's got a lot going on.
