TinaSC
My daughter is technically a junior next year, but only has 6 credits left to finish. I am debating letting her finish early. She needs 2 English credits though. Is this possible? We had tossed around dual credit as well. Just not sure.
Ravin
A 3 credit hour 1-semester college course is generally considered 1 full-year high school credit. So, yes, it is possible to get 2 credits in a year for a student capable of working at a college pace in the subject.
Julie of KY
You could also do a traditional English credit paired with something like a creative writing credit or genre-specific literature credit.
klmama
Yes, it's absolutely possible, even if she takes high school level credits. Just make sure she is doing enough work in each for a full credit. I graduated with at least 6.5 credits in English. Here are the courses I remember taking: English 9 (1), grammar (1), rhetoric (1), American literature (1), British literature (1), creative writing (.5), speech (.5), play reading (.5)
teachermom2834
My ds took two de English classes last year that were counted as 2 credits. In 9th grade he took Blue Tent English 9 but also did a homegrown American Lit course to complement American history. If it is enough work for two credits, sure! That said , our current umbrella school would not allow 2 English credits in one year unless de. I think they are very wrong! I would have fought it if I had to. snowbeltmom
Yes, it is possible. My son took AP Literature and WTMA Rhetoric II in the same year. I listed both on his transcript for junior year and awarded each 1 credit.
foxbridgeacademy
I would do block type scheduling, English 11 first semester, English 12 2nd semester. do the other 4.5 regular style. Chrysalis Academy
My dd did three English-y credits last year: Literature & Composition, Creative Writing, Theater & Film. Based on the number of works studied, and the number of hours spent (we count hours) I have zero qualms about awarding three full credits. I think block scheduling could also work fine.
