We live in the woods in KY and have been trying to identify some of the birds we hear in the morning. There is one that sounds identical to the Lost smoke monster with a sort of rattling sound. We'd love to know what it is! Any ideas? Thanks!! 😀

I read somewhere they used a taxi meter for one of the sound effects?

Is the bird you're hearing a low pitch (screech owl) or higher pitch (woodpecker/flicker)? That monster made a few different sounds.

You can go to the Cornell University website to hear bird vocalization audio, www.allaboutbirds.com.

I was sitting in a hunting blind with my dh this spring and we heard the weirdest bird sounds. Almost electronic! A couple weeks later I heard the same odd sounds while hiking, and realized it was actually a squirrel (I think).

Oh yes! A squirrel is probably your most likely culprit! They can make lots of thrumming, mechanical type sounds. Here are a variety of their calls:
