Math facts, addition... MUS and free resources?

I'm guessing it would be better to let her use the blocks than have her count on her fingers... even for the test. I don't know what to tell you about moving on, but I'm guessing some people do as long as they can solve the problems with the blocks. I think I've read here that for some dc doing the math without the blocks comes later.

Curious what others will say!

There is a free on-line drill at the Math U See website, there is also a worksheet generator. I totally agree with the other posters about using blocks rather than fingers. :001_smile:

My daughter really struggled getting the math facts memorized quickly, no matter how long we spent on a unit. We finally had to just move on and let her use the blocks. When we got up to lesson 18 (subtraction) it said to not move on until all the addition facts were memorized quickly. We spent 1 month, doing drills, games, flash cards, and practicing in the car, until she got them. We just moved on today! :D

Yeah, I feel behind too. She started Alpha in K, but just doesn't seem to have a head that holds numbers. I frequently debate about how many to let her get wrong before moving on. My oldest almost always gets a 100% on all his math, even the first day. In school, they would move on w/o her and she would get hopelessly lost, so I am thankful that I can slow down so that she gets it. I would rather have her succeed through Algebra, than make it through Trig and be hopelessly lost. But I also think it is unrealistic for her to make 100% on her assignments. So, yeah, I struggle with what to do too!
