Barb_
Heard through the grapevine an emergency foster was needed, so we drove over spur of the moment and picked up the sweetest little doe-colored chiweenie you've ever laid eyes on. Oh my goodness, I may not be able to give him back. My daughter and her boyfriend were so excited to see him, they jumped in the car and drove the 2.5 hours from Tucson to surprise us. My 17yo was so excited (and her Ritalin formulation had been discontinued) that she ran headlong into the other dog's cage while trying to climb over it and ripped her foot open. I think she may need stitches. I wrapped it in a damp clean shop towel followed by a dry one and a lot of packing tape. We propped it up and it seems to have stopped gushing. I'm gonna go clean up the stairs and hallway and living room. So this morning was a normal day and now we have a puppy, company, and possibly an ER visit. Never a dull moment.
Barb_
Now dd's boyfriend is making scrambled eggs in the dark so as not to disturb anyone. Holy heck we're going to have multiple emergency room visits :D

I've managed to make it trough this many kids so far without ever needing them, so I'm not sure how to tell. It seems to have stopped bleeding but she's scared to take the towels off. I'll have a look at in tomorrow.

If you do they have to put the sides of wound together sometime other way, which leaves more scars. At least that's what I remember from ripping a major chunk of my thumb open 40 years ago. I do have a giant visible scar. I was afraid to tell my parents what I done and managed to stop the bleeding through elevation and pressure. But the skin was never going to come together, with my bandaid effort alone. Obviously I can't picture your dds foot. I hope it looks ok and you don't need to go to the ER.

I also have a nasty scar from cutting open my thumb. This was about six month ago. I thought it was never going to heal and then it did and I have a horrible scar. I should have gone in to get stitches, but I didn't want the hassle and I figured that since I'd been able to wrap it tight and stop the bleeding that they weren't really needed. I think I was wrong.
Lanny
Take her to the E.R. and let a professional decide whether or not stitches are required. It's not a big deal.

I think it's 24 hours for stitches. When you're evaluating, make sure to take into account what movement in that part of the foot will do--will it stay closed? I hate doing the stitches evaluation :shudder:. I bet that puppy's adorable!
amo_mea_filiis.
I thought it was like 6 hours for stitches. Higher chance of infection after that?
Barb_
She is fine! I got up early this morning and she had kicked off the makeshift bandage in her sleep. It turned out to be a puncture wound instead of a rip. It was deep, so lots of blood, but it didn't look nearly as bad as I was afraid it would. It's closing up nicely. The area around it is quite bruised from the impact which seems to be where most of the pain is coming from. She is upstairs giving it a warm bath and a good scrub. I bought some Hibiclens and she just had a tetanus booster last year. So she's good. Thanks for worrying, Hive :)

We have crappy insurance with high deductibles and the ER costs a fortune. Not that urgent care is all that great--it cost $180 to find out my other dd didn't have strep. :glare: Why do these things always happen on the weekends?

This is true, I have a nasty scar on the corner of my eye where I hit a window ledge while jumping on the bed. My mom realized the next day I should have had stitches but it was too late. Catwoman
Thank you for the puppy picture. Thank you even more for the "no gross foot picture." That puppy is adorable!!! Do you have to give him back? He's so cute that it will be hard not to love him right away. (Okay, I know how shallow that sounded, but really, look at those eyes!) And Barb, your daughter is absolutely beautiful! She looks so much like you!
Barb_
He is the sweetest. He's also seems smart and trainable. Our poor dog is dumb as dirt. I think she was dropped on her head as a puppy. I'd forgotten what it's like to have a normal dog  So any guesses as to his parentage? His mother is definitely full chihuahua, but the father is a guess. They said chiweenie, but I'm wondering if there is some beagle in there somewhere.

I thought the same! Although he looks bigger in pictures than he is. He is some sort of weird optical illusion. He's just 3 months and 8 pounds but his legs are so long! I just measured and his legs are 9 inches while is white body is only 12. And he has the tiniest head. No anxiety or fear. He's cheerful and laid back. Really agile and has no problem leaping onto tall furniture. He's a reactionary barker.

Pawz4me
Possibly something like a miniature pinscher or Manchester terrier? Still, that would be pretty long legged for one of those at that age, I think. It's possible the sire was a mix.
Mabelen
Beautiful dog! We have a chihuahua mix. She has thin, long legs, and is very chesty; we think she is part Italian Greyhound. She may also have pug as well, her tail is curly and she has some subtle brow marks too. Your dog could be a mix of several breeds too. Glad to hear your daughter's foot is healing well.

Minpin or whippet was another guess due to his body type, but you know how weird mutts can be. My terrier mix looks like a barrel chested chihuahua/dauchund/beagle but her dna tests came back half Boston terrier, and half terrier mutt. We're thinking rat terrier and some chihuahua--that's a terrier too, right? Dog breeds aren't my area of expertise, to saythe least. Almost every rescue dog in the Phoenix metro has some chi and and/or Pit background.
