Jenn in CA
Any title suggestions for a Ramona-lover? Here are the qualities we like: * silly, but not overly so * not historical, but modern day setting * realistic and relatable * simple plot/story lines * not too fast-moving We've got the Henry Huggins books already. Thanks for any ideas!
Farrar
Clementine is the most obvious one. The books are maybe slightly shorter and easier than Ramona, but about the same and Clementine is funny and gets into trouble all the time. She's like Ramona when Ramona was younger. Other options... The Lemonade War (sibling protagonists, a boy and a girl - less funny, but still pretty light) The Year of the Dog (less funny) Judy Moody (they're easier than Ramona) Gooney Bird Greene (also a lot easier than Ramona) Nim's Island (only a two book series, and not set in the US if that makes a difference) Anna Hibiscus (easier than Ramona, set in Nigeria) The Penderwicks (though it can be on the more serious side) the whole Andrew Clements canon (though that has mostly male protagonists)

deerforest
Clementine for sure. Ivy and Bean are a bit more challenging if I recall but also beloved favorites.

CherryBlossomMJ
Mine went from Ramona to Henry to Ronald Dahl. These are all in her free reading time. She also is going back through Magic Tree House, Kate O'Hearn, Rick Riordan, E. B. White, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Lewis Carroll, Peter Pan, Madeline L'Engle, and Narnia. She also just finished reading her first Janette Oke and has started her first Melanie Dickerson.
