ReadingMama1214
DD5 LOVES the humor of Arnold Lobel. She's also read Mercy Watson, Sophie the Mouse, and is currently reading through Zoey and Sassafras. I'm looking for books on a 2/3rd grade level that are early chapter books, pictures, and funny like Lobel. Any suggestions?

Lori D.
Well, Arnold Lobel is in a class by himself. Nothing is quite like his charming, sweetly funny books. :001_wub: These are humorous, but are more at a 1st grade level: - The Dragon's Scales (Albee) - Inspector Hopper series (Cushman) - Aunt Eater series (Cushman) - Dinosaur Detective (Skofield) - Nate the Great series (Sharmat) - Wizard and Wart series (Smith) - P.J. Funnybunny series (Sadler) - Minnie and Moo series (Cazet) - The Golly Sisters series (Byars) - Amelia Bedelia series (Parish) - Fox series (Marshall) - Three in a Tree; Four by the Shore (Marshall) - Commander Toad series (Yolen) - High Rise Private Eyes series (Rylant) - Henry and Mudge (Rylant) - Mr. Putter and Tabby (Rylant) - Poppleton (Rylant) - Olivia series (Falconer) chapter books, with humor: - Flat Stanley series (Brown) -- gr. 1-4 - Baby Mouse series (Holm) -- gr. 2-5 - McBroom's Wonderful One-Acre Farm (Fleischman) -- gr. 2 - The Whipping Boy (Fleischman) -- grade 3 - The Bears on Hemlock Mountain (Dalgliesh) -- grade 2 - A Grain of Rice (Pittman) -- gr. 1-2 - Pippi Longstockings; Pippi in the South Seas (Lindgren) -- gr. 3-4 Edited April 22, 2017 by Lori D.
