Kassia
I don't "get" running either, it bores me. But just yesterday I was talking to one of the moms in our fencing club who started fencing at her son's request, and she complained that fencing is not energetic enough for her and she would rather spend the time running :) I had a great workout today, although by the end I could barely lift my weapon. So, the first 5-day week is done. I think I notice a touch of improvement actually, but that might be wishful thinking. Two more weeks left till the first competition. I talked to one of the older ladies in our club, who had been fencing for a while and even represented the US on one of the world veteran championships. She made me feel a little better, and she said she is going to come watch the competition, so I'll have a few familiar faces around and maybe even some advice. I love running, but it has to be outside. I can't run on a treadmill because it's too boring. Fencing looks like so much fun and is a great workout! I signed up for fencing in college, but dropped the class because I was sick at the beginning of the semester. I wish I had been able to take it.
Soror
Today's plan is a strength bodyweight circuits and painting(waaa I don't want to!!). My allergies are KILLING me, all the dust from cleaning. Down a pound again. I've been slacking on eating this week, staying too busy and not always cooking the best. I'm trying to slow down and have actual meals. I am 5 lbs from my goal. My workout last night with dh teaching was awesome and I feel pretty great. I'm thinking of going to the class this morning. If I don't make it I think I'll find a quick workout online to do today. Great! Hopefully, your body can handle it now. Sadly, my gym doesn't usually offer single sessions. :-(I actually *almost* have my PTC (with no plans to use it, lol), but I'm still paranoid about judging my own form, especially in my lower back. I wish I could call someone in to evaluate my deadlift! I remembered you were going for that, I thought about it briefly but decided against it, I could see how it would be hard to assess yourself, same thing with yoga poses what you can do is have somebody take a pic or video and then assess it from that. I took some sessions way back when b/c I wanted to learn to do some basic lifts but I still didn't feel confident enough on my own. I have a friend that does heavy lifting. I keep thinking I'll join her some time, she lifts on Sat. Maybe some day this summer I'll try it out. Hey, I finally got it to work! This is me on the ski into the public cabin. Yes, my tiny skis (that I borrowed from ds) are shorter than my poles. You look great, it looks nice and brisk! I had to check but a weighted bar and a body bar are the same thing. I just am looking for something new to add to my menu of choices. I need to keep myself motivated or I will start slacking. I don't use one but whatever works for you I am all about making it fun.
Greta
If you recall, I mentioned that I was going to get a body fat assessment at the YMCA. It was actually helpful and I recommend it if you're interested in measuring improvement with something other than a scale. I hate that scale because my "weight" fluctuates 3 lbs up depending on water retention. I'm glad you mentioned this, and that you found it helpful! I decided to take a break from the scale since it was upsetting me, plus it is frustrating how rapidly it can fluctuate for reasons that have nothing to do with your fitness. It's been a long time since I had a body fat assessment, so I'm going to find out how to do that again. This is me on the ski into the public cabin. That was so fun to get to see a picture of you! And what a completely different climate/ecosystem you live in compared to where I am. It looks really beautiful. There are many things about the desert that I absolutely love, but I do miss having a real fall and winter, and I miss tall trees. I do NOT miss mosquitos, ticks, and all those other biting/stinging critters that you guys in more humid climates have to deal with. You can keep those. I love running, but it has to be outside. I can't run on a treadmill because it's too boring. Same here, I was going to say that running outdoors and running on a treadmill are two completely different activities! I love the former, can't stand the latter. I have really missed running, but I learned yesterday that a brisk hike up a steep trail gives me just as good a workout, and puts less stress on my problem ankle.

Mine has been my spotter and my informal coach for our weight workouts. But he's a very interested/experienced non-professional, not a fitness instructor or personal trainer or anything like that. In fact, I think we would both benefit from a few personal training sessions at this point. We've been doing our own thing since June of last year, and I think what we've done is fine for beginners. Might be time to shake it up with a new challenge. Edited March 18, 2017 by Greta
SparklyUnicorn
Tried that new exercise DVD I bought. I loved it. It was not too difficult to follow along (for the most part). Yet it was interesting enough where I can see myself using it for awhile. It's Jessica Smith "Walk On" if anyone is interested.

Yes, my tiny skis (that I borrowed from ds) are shorter than my poles. I love all of your ski posts! I ran my first half marathon today!! I actually did it. And as much as I hate the heat down here, it was nice to run along the ocean for most of it.

wintermom
I went for another ski with my ds 13. He nabbed the skate skis and proper boots, so I was stuck with classic. I kept up with him for the full 10km, but I was pretty wiped by the end. We went to the same 2 cabins, then further on to another one another 1km along the trail. It was gorgeous and warm, though a lot more crowded today. Wonderful to see so many folk outdoors skiing, both nordic and downhill. With all the hills I've been doing, there is a built-in HIIT component that takes away the need for timing devices. Just grit your teeth while climbing to the top of the hill, take a big breath, then glide down and hope that your leg muscles don't seize up on the way down.
Soror
I got the nightstand and chair painted but that is it. I still have to get all the doors done but I don't think it is happening today, I need to run in and get groceries and I'm not feeling so good. I don't know if it is just sinuses making me feel this bad or what but I am just exhausted (maybe it is just too many days in a row of pushing too hard). I'm not feeling very optimistic about getting in my workout today but perhaps this evening will be better. I love all of your ski posts!I ran my first half marathon today!! I actually did it. KathyBC
Just needed a place to share, we finally got wifi!! Bought a roku stick and was able to stream some YouTube videos on the TV yesterday. Had so much fun dancing with Refit!! Made for a really nice change of pace from Zumba DVDS (though I still love them). Edited March 18, 2017 by KathyBC

Greta
I had the most amazing, fun, awesome weight workout today! I felt so strong and capable - it is absolutely amazing the difference between slogging through a workout when you have a migraine and enjoying a workout because you feel so good! I haven't had very many migraine-free days at all in 2017, and the last time that one coincided with a weight workout was January 7th. (I keep records, I'm weird.) I even accomplished a new personal best today. I had bench pressed 55 pounds before, but never a complete set, much less two complete sets (of 10) like I did today. Yay!

Laurie4b
I've been traveling without always having access to internet, but wanted to check in. We're visiting aging parents. The travel has seriously impacted my exercise this week. I couldn't do cardio the day we drove, but I did do a bodyweight routine once we got to our destination. The next day, there was no polite way to exercise, but I think the socializing we did with the in-laws was the right priority. Today, though, I got in two 30 min snow shoveling sessions to help my dad and am calling that "good" for both aerobic and strength! I have made good choices with food and gotten plenty of sleep, so that's good. Altogether, I got in 3 strength sessions of some sort, but only 90 min of cardio. Sunday is usually a rest day, but we may try to finish up the shoveling before we leave.

I can't even imagine doing a workout while having a migraine. I had a streak last spring when I had one the first couple days of my period, and I couldn't think straight, let alone workout. You are a hero! And I am happy you had to enjoy a migraine-free day! I did nothing today, but I think I may have overworked myself a little, as I was very sleepy all day long. Tomorrow is another rest day.

I did nothing today, but I think I may have overworked myself a little, as I was very sleepy all day long. Tomorrow is another rest day. I'm very unlucky with the frequency of my migraines, but I am very fortunate that most of them are not severe. I have a few debilitating migraines, the kind where all you can do is lay in a dark quiet room and pray for relief! But most of mine are manageable. I can go about my normal activities, it's just that everything is harder. I can tell that my thinking is really slowed down and muddled, and my daughter has said she can even hear the difference in my speech. Workouts are harder because I'm light-headed/dizzy, plus my heart rate runs significantly higher and I feel much weaker. Luckily, though, the medications usually help significantly with the pain! It's just that they don't even touch those other symptoms. Well, that was probably more info than you wanted! lol I just wanted to say that I'm far from heroic! I am very fortunate that things aren't worse than they are. And I certainly appreciate your kind words! A migraine woke me up around 2:30 last night. I took my meds and got back to sleep and I'm feeling a lot better than I feared. I don't think I'll be setting any new "personal best" records today, but I should be able to workout! It's a cardio day, but I don't have anything specific planned yet. I'll see how I'm feeling in another hour or so and then decide what I'm capable of. Enjoy your rest day! If you're sleepy again today, maybe a nap will be in order. :001_smile:

wintermom
I had a singles tennis game with my friend this morning. She is so consistent and strong. I played physically really well, and mentally totally bombed. My fitness has never been better, but my consistency and focus could use some improvement. :o It was really fun, though. I'm taking ds 13 for another ski today. We're going to do the monster-killer biathlon loop. I hope I return alive! ;) Edited March 19, 2017 by wintermom
GoodGrief
Weighed yesterday...down another half pound to my surprise. Not bad for a week with a couple of big eating days and new weight work added in! Headed out of town today for the week and will definitely be off track for eating. Hoping to do some running or other exercise though. Then back on plan for the duration! I'm liking being more comfortable in my clothes.
lynn
Today I started the week with a 4mile run. I am training for the annual 10k here that is on memorial day. Hoping to do it within 1 hour (yes I do run slow) if not very close. Weekly goals remain the same watch sugar and starch intake.
