Reading Development Q

Recommended Posts

DD is about 10 lessons from finishing OPGTR. She's done well transitioning into reading 2 syllable words and many 3 syllables ones. Her fluency is pretty good and she can read books such as Little Bear and Arnold Lobel books fairly easily and only occasionally stopping to sound out a longer word. However, over the last week I feel that she is stumbling more and even on words she knows well. She's grasping what we are covering in phonics and can read the lessons. I'm not sure if her mind is ahead of her mouth or something like that? Is it normal for reading to seem to regress a little bit before a leap in ability? Her stamina has greatly approved recently and I wonder if she is maybe on the brink of a cognitive leap.
