If You Were My Bunny--sweet animal lullabies that can be sung to tunes of different known songs. We LOVED this one.

Agree with many of the above, including Going on a Bear Hunt--so fun to make the "squelch, squerch" and "swishy swashy" sounds

I just ordered If You Were My Bunny used in "very good" condition from Amazon for DD. Thank you! I think she'll love it.

ANything by Sandra Boynton -- particular favorites for Babies are Doggies and Moo Baa Lalala

More recently, I've been drawing to the Usborne book Find the Puppy

And the DK first words book that is in that plasticized cover -- it held up much better than other board books to being chewed on.

The Indestructibles were a favorite here.  They're made out of tyvek - plastic, washable paper that doesn't rip or fall apart.

I give out those and the Poke-A-Dot books as gifts.  The dots are plastic bubbles that the kid can press, turn the page, and press them again back to the other side.  They're a lot of fun. :)

Boynton... "The Going to Bed Book" "Moo, Baa, La La La", "Pajama Time", etc.

"Mama Do You Love Me?"

"Goodnight Moon"

Mama Do You Love Me looks precious. I just ordered Daddy Do You Love Me, since I have more books with mom rather than dad as the featured parent. I love the African people and culture represented in the illustrations and text. Thank you for sharing! Edited by ifIonlyhadabrain

This book: https://www.amazon.com/Red-Socks-Ellen-Mayer/dp/159572706X There are more in the series that I haven't read yet, but I like that the "story line" is a mom's conversation with her baby. The point of the series is to encourage parents to talk to their babies.

Books like these, with real photographs. Especially photographs of babies. Babies love babies. https://www.amazon.com/Smile-Baby-Faces-Board-Book/dp/0590058991/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1488233023&sr=1-3&keywords=board+book+faces

I like this book. This might be my favorite book for ME, lol. It's another whole series, and since we like to travel, it's fun to see which places we've been to before https://www.amazon.com/Good-Night-Michigan-Our-World/dp/1602190542/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1488233115&sr=1-1&keywords=good+night+michigan

Jamberry

So Many Bunnies

My First ABC (Metropolitan Museum of Art)

Peek a Who? - really great for turning pages quickly

something with pictures of real babies like this https://www.amazon.com/Baby-Faces-DK-Publishing/dp/0789436507/ref=pd_sim_14_5?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=0789436507&pd_rd_r=V211N266SC4AY8JT6AQW&pd_rd_w=AAVYf&pd_rd_wg=1BRJx&psc=1&refRID=V211N266SC4AY8JT6AQW

I try to avoid the super popular books (Goodnight Moon, Brown Bear etc...) for gifts because they are likely to be duplicates.

Adding: Of Colors and Things by Tana Hoban

I clicked on this thread to suggest Tana Hoban books.  We liked Red, Blue, Yellow Shoe when my daughter was young.  I like this one, too ~ Black & White.

I'll also recommend Rosemary Wells' Max and Ruby books.  Some of the dialogue in those books is part of our family lexicon twenty years later!

When the baby is about four or five, send along a copy of George and Martha: The Complete Stories of Two Best Friends Collector's Edition by James Marshall

Regards,

Kareni

If You Were My Bunny was one of the first books I bought for my oldest--she'll be 21 next week!

I can't believe I forgot about it--I sang those songs to her many, many times!

This one has a great rhythm and gorgeous illustrations: https://www.amazon.com/Time-Bed-Mem-Fox/dp/0152010661/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1488243912&sr=8-1&keywords=time+for+bed+board+book

Also love Boynton books..you can even get a personalized one with the baby's name.

And my kids LOVED LOVED LOVED the "That's not my _______" books from Usborne. I think the favorite was "that's not my elephant" one.

Oh, don't forget a Carl book!  Good Dog Carl, or, Carl's Afternoon in the Park, or...

Pat the Bunny -- a touch-and-feel board book

a Little Critter book (Mercer Meyer) -- Shapes, or Colors, or ABCs, or other...

a Richard Scarry book -- perhaps Cars and Trucks from A to Z, or,  I Am A Bunny

a lift the flap board book -- we had 6-8 of these and they were WELL-loved

White Rabbit's Color Book

If used books are okay, one of the Poke and Look board books -- we loved One Green Frog.

Go Dog Go - the board book version.    Both ours called it Gogodog.

lol. It got called "doggo-doggo" here.

Sandra Boynton - Moo Baa La La La

No, no, you say, that isn't right! The pigs say oink all day and night.

Do you realize, the girls are 11 and 13 now? I haven't read them a board book in over a decade, and yet, some things are emblazoned on my memory. Like the entire pre-2007 Boynton oeuvre.

Oh yes, I can recite the Going to Bed book!  I adore anything by Sandra Boynton, but one of my personal favorites is 15 Animals.  Oh and the Belly Button book.  We still refer to belly buttons as "bee-bo's" half the time around here :D

Oh yes, I can recite the Going to Bed book!

The sun has set not long ago

Now everybody goes below

To take a bath in one big tub

With soap all over

SCRUB SCRUB SCRUB

They hang their towels on the wall

And find pajamas big and small

With some on top and some beneath

They BRUSH and BRUSH and BRUSH their teeth

And when the moon is on the rise

They all go up

To exercise!

And down once more, but not so fast

They're on their way to bed at last

The day is done, they say goodnight

And somebody turns off the light

The moon is high, the sea is deep

They rock and rock and rock to sleep.

Yes, OP, just go to the store and buy everything with Boynton on the cover and call it a day.

Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes

If Christian content is desired:

God is Watching Over You (sweet rhyming text of little sheep's day ending and going to bed with the line "God is watching over you" ending each page)

Bible Basics Board Book from http://www.catechesisbooks.com/

(beautiful rich illustrations, counting book of Bible basics 1-God, 2-Natures of Jesus, 3-Persons of the Trinity, etc.
