gardenmom5
I stopped watching ss years ago when my boys were little as they didn't like it. when dudeling was born - I absolutely couldn't stand what they had done, and he wouldn't watch it anyway.
zoobie
Sounds hilarious. How did they do it? I love their parody skits. Kids have no idea, and it's entertaining for adults.
hjffkj
They had a game of thrones one and mad men one before. They were funny and the kids had no idea what they were a parody of. And they weren't offensive at all
Seeking Squirrels
Before opening the thread I read just the title and thought "I have no idea why that show exits!" I gave that show three episodes and then gladly let it go. I don't see the appeal at all. I'm guessing SS throws stuff like that in there to try to amuse parents who are sitting through the show. I'm sure it all goes over the heads of the little ones.
TravelingChris
My kids are all grown so I don't watch it anymore but I remember funny parodies of current songs and other things when my kids were little and watching sometimes.
EKS
They do that stuff for the adults watching. There are actually a lot of jokes and references to things that kids have no clue about.
Kalmia
I recall a Miami Mice skit, and I remember wondering why? The kids don't get it though.
MercyA
That's just tacky.
Farrar
I'm with those who think it's just to be funny for the adults and that the kids aren't meant to get it. I mean, the Mad Men one was cute - it was about emotions and rhymes. Adults get to chuckle at the references. Older kids get to feel like they knew about a culturally relevant show without actually knowing a thing. Younger kids get a cute skit about some educational topic.
kubiac
They once had a Sons of Anarchy bit on Sesame Street! SOA is 100 times more violent and twisted than OITNB, but the SS version was just muppets in leather jackets w a nice message about morals or phonics or both. It's fine. Four year olds don't do much intertextuality.

Yep. Sesame Street has a long history of throwing in stuff for the adults.
Farrar
My kids showed me a clip of Daveed Diggs rapping about Rubber Duckie with Ernie just today. My 12 yo kids. I assume that things like this also keep Sesame Street relevant and popular for adults, who are the ones tuning the dial for their prime audience.
Guest
They had a game of thrones one and mad men one before. They were funny and the kids had no idea what they were a parody of. And they weren't offensive at all I know when I was a kid, this was true with The Muppets. My parents loved to laugh at the witty reparté, such as the two guys who sat in the balcony seat. Those jokes were always for the adults and we never got them, but it also didn't hurt anything. We were laughing at Fozz-ee-bear and Gonzo.
Bluegoat
Well, when I was little they had Monsterpiece Theatre, and The Beatles, who were real beetles, singing "Letter B."
Mimm
I wouldn't have a problem with it if it was appropriate for children. Sounds amusing. My kids have rewatched things they watched as children and now they're all, "Oohhh... I totally didn't get that when I was a kid."
Mimm
I found the Game of Thrones one and it made me laugh. :) While still being perfectly acceptable for children.

Seeking Squirrels
Ha, just watched the GoT clip with my kids. We all found it funny and they have no idea what GoT even is. SS just knows how to entertain the adults and kids at the same time. :)
