Are there other educational lecture series?

Recommended Posts

I've been listening to the audio book of The Renaissance which is part of The Story of Civilization by Will and Ariel Durant. I was thinking that it was quite a bit like an in depth lecture on the topic.

I check this out from my library using Overdrive.

Have you searched for podcasts by subject? I am not sure what subjects you are interested in, but this series is on the history of the English language. http://historyofenglishpodcast.com/episodes/

There are some good ones out there if you search by subject. Some of the BBC In Our Time episodes are quite interesting: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/2Dw1c7rxs6DmyK0pMRwpMq1/archive

EWTN (Catholic radio) has a good series on Shakespeare by Joseph Pearce: http://www.ewtn.com/multimedia/audio-library/index.asp search the term Shakespeare

There's a radio series called In Our Time.  It's a discussion programme between three expert academics and an amateur chair on a different subject each week.  I've learned so much.  All the episodes are available online.  It's designed for adults, so topics are treated frankly but not salaciously.  The programme list is here:

Hardcore History podcasts are amazing. They aren't your typical podcast and I've learned more from Dan Carlin than all of my university history courses combined. He links all of his sources on the podcast so you will have enough go along reading to last a life time. His WWI series was one of the most amazing things I've listened too in recent memory. Very well done. The most recent 10 are available for free. The older ones are available on iTunes for a fee.
