Recommended Posts

TT4, (then maybe 5 or maybe back to MM), Saxon 54's daily fact drills or MM 4  or Saxon 54
R&S 3 grammar
WWE2 or 3
Spelling Power Simply Spelling
Science in the Beginning or Apologia something-or-other
Sonlight B history/literature + 4th grade readers -- this will be with her younger brothers. (OR piece something similar together myself)
Ambleside Online Year 1
Story of the World Volume 2: The Middle Ages
Various resources for coding, Spanish, ukulele, chess, drawing, touch typing.

Since I typed out her 6th grade brother's plans where I shared my current ambivalence towards Latin, the idea has occurred to me that I could spend next year going through Getting Started with Latin (already on my Kindle) with all the children and decide whether to step it up with BBLL for youngers and Visual Latin for oldest ds (both already on my shelves :blushing: ), next year. It's painless enough that I could manage it in spite of my current feelings and maybe my flame will reignite.

We are almost completely continuing with the same curriculum we've had. Glad it's works for us and I haven't had to try out a lot of different curriculums. Science is the only completely new thing for us.

Spelling - AAS 5

Writing - WWE 3

Math - MUS Epsilon

History - SOTW 3

Science - RSO Chem, CLP Nature Reader 4

Latin - Latina Christiana (second half)

Books - Reading Roadmap 4th grade list

We also rotate through a morning basket routine 3 days a week with memory work (scriptures & Latin) plus:

Mon - Hymns for a Child's Heart, Impressionist Art Cards

Tues - Storybook Bible, Literature (Dickens, Grimm's Fairy Tales, Just So Stories)

Thurs - Wisdom from the Millers, Composer Study (squilt/composer coloring pages)

Extras:

Beekeeping (fall and spring)

Piano (year round)

Basketball (in the winter)

Maybe an electives co-op?

Bee keeping!!

Fun.

Yeah, a man in our church keeps and extracts bees so last year he got my husband and son into it. We have a hive on the side of our house and have pulled 12 pint jars of honey from last year - it's been really cool. Edited by ~Victoria~

I *think*

Math-

CLE

Prodigy

Language Arts-

Phonetic Zoo

IEW Fables

R&S English or G.U.M. workbook

Loads of literature and poetry for our geography based year

Geography- (taking a history break and doing world geography next year)

I have over 200 books, fables, stories, and fairy tales from around the world for next year. I used the book Give Your Child the World for lists. I'll read a bunch during morning basket time and she will have a stack to read on her own. We will do weekly crafts, presentations, and projects, and monthly celebrations with food and festivities from various countries.

Science-

Elemental science in coop. Not sure which one, but all experiments, reading, and vocabulary will happen at coop. Yay!

Religion, Character, Logic, Poetry, Art, Memory Work, composer study, math and spelling drills, games, etc all happen during morning basket time. It takes about 1.5 hours. Everyone gets a chance to read aloud, and we just cycle through a bunch of stuff.

I really want to simplify school for next year. I love our morning time together, and then I just want a math block and a language arts block of time. This child will probably be doing 20-22 hours of gymnastics, so it's important to me that our home time is peaceful and relaxing and not rushed or stressed.

A few minor changes but mostly my plan is the same. Must mean I like it! Time to order before I change my mind!

DD8 is in PS this year for 3rd. For math and spelling, we're going to work through level 3 before 4 because for the programs we use I think it would be better to not skip ahead. Math we've already started 3, spelling we will as soon as school lets out.

Math BA4 (may still be finishing up 3d)

Spelling AAS3, into 4 if/when we get there

Grammar and writing EIW4

Handwriting ZB4

Reading compiling a list from a few sources for both independent reading and read alouds

Vocabulary Word Roots Beginning

History Read-through only (probably using the audiobooks) of SOTW 1-4.

Geography EM Daily Geography

Science Ellen McHenry The Elements in the fall. Ellen McHenry Botany in the spring. I'm thinking probably some Mystery Science units between the two in the winter. After The Elements, we're going to do a short microscope study, learning about them and how to use them and playing around with observing things (probably just a couple weeks to start her off then she'll likely use it on her own time frequently). From then until spring we will start digging into RSO Physics. Once it's warming up, we'll start Botany. After Botany we will return to RSO Physics over the summer and into 5th.

Art HAS and painting classes at a local studio

Online tech course that she hasn't picked yet. Probably stop-motion animation or robotics. I misunderstood the program we're going through and she doesn't have to do one of their courses (which I've heard aren't great). I can create my own but it has to be tech, engineering, or entrepreneurship. We are doing engineering using Engino, Lego, and K'Nex.

Adding spanish with Duolingo.

Co-op classes that we won't know until July

Highland Dance and Tumbling

I'd like to get her in piano lessons, but if not then I will start up lessons again at home.

My fourth grade daughter will continue with intensive classical ballet training, introductory violin, piano playing, poetry writing, reading lots of books (Right now she's powering through Jane Eyre!  Her choice.), contemplating nature, drawing through a ream of paper every couple of weeks, and providing sunshine to our days.

In addition, I have scheduled:

Daily Morning Basket - Literature read alouds, Shakespeare tidbits, poetry selections, etc.

Teatime Thursdays - Poetry and art history readings

Music Mondays - Beautiful Feet's History of Classical Music

Grammar - First Language Lessons 4

Writing and Spelling - Brave Writer's Partnership Writing and The Arrow

Ancient History (second time through) - SOTW 1 with History Odyssey

Human Anatomy - R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey OR Guest Hollow (still contemplating)

Math - Saxon 5/4 into 6/5

Latin - undecided, but possibly Song School 2 so that she can stay with younger sister

I don't know.  I haven't used either one before.  But glancing at Modern Speller, they seem pretty similar.  If you're already using Modern Speller, I would just stick with that.  (Not sure why I didn't look at it before......   :001_smile: )

My plans are always changing, but this is my best guess for what DS#1 will be doing this coming fall for 4th grade.

Math:  AoPS Pre-Algebra

Science:  NO IDEA.

History/literature/geography:  BookShark 3 (combined with younger brother) + Evan-Moor Daily Geography 5

Grammar/writing/poetry/vocab:  Michael Clay Thompson Town Level. +/- Killgallons Elementary Sentence Composing?  Also Daily Grams 5 for mechanics practice

No extras planned... yet!

New plan, lots of things have changed:

AoPS pre-algebra

MCT Town (minus actual writing assignments)

IEW All Things Fun and Fascinating

Spelling You See lvl C

Fix It! Grammar

Read-alouds picked from BkSk and BYL lists

SOTW modern times

Swimming

And science will be a great big mixture, done together with DS#3, roughly following the schedule of topics for the first half of BFSU 1 overlaid with RS4K Building Blocks 3, plus stuff from Developing Critical Thinking Through Science, living books, and Bill Nye, Magic School Bus, and Brain Pop videos.  If we manage to keep up with it, we might get to Quark Chronicles and Ellen McHenry Botany around the end of the school year, otherwise that'll get bumped to the beginning of 5th grade.

My fourth grader will have an unusual fall term because he'll be doing different language arts for those few months so that his brother (who is 15 months younger) can catch up. My plan is around January to be teaching them all language arts together using the Phonics Road Level 3 (which covers spelling, grammar, reading, composition, vocabulary, and Latin roots). For the fall I'm tentatively planning to have him work through a Wordly Wise book and also have him continue to read aloud to me and do dictation. I'm debating whether I need to make the vocabulary lists also spelling words every week. It would be more challenging that way, but we've done so much spelling, I wonder if it would be OK just to have a break for the fall! Our other plans:

Math: he'll continue Seton Math 3 (also with his younger brother). I think they'll finish part way through the year. After that I'm considering the simply charlotte mason business math, or jumping into Saxon 5/4.

Morning Basket rotation: this will cover religion, and also some picture study and literature. We also say prayers and sing a simple hymn. I'd like to add more memory work but haven't totally settled on how we'll do that.

Lunch rotations (I read aloud while they eat): this will cover history (finishing up SOTW 1), poetry, and astronomy (just from a living book). We do narration for all this, rotating through my 3 boys.

We also always have a read aloud going and I'd like to throw some Shakespeare retellings in there and watch a few performances as a family.

Another thing I may try is to do some composer study and picture study using simply charlotte mason during our Advent break (from thanksgiving to the week or so before Christmas). I'd like to get something done during that time without doing all the normal subjects.

My schedule seems complicated typed up in this way, but it's actually really simple. I have fallen into the trap of piling too much on us and want to avoid that. I want to cut as much busy work and time consuming projects so that we don't feel so frazzled all the time.

Extras: weekly catechism at church and martial arts.

I would not be in the least bit surprised if we cut out the extras, the memorization, the logic, and some of the supplemented history--but I like to plan for more than we get done, in case it does all get done.

  • Math: RightStart E, with BA 3D then as far as we get in 4 (daily)
  • Latin: Ecce Romani I (daily)
  • Grammar: maybe Hake again, but I'm looking forward to SWB's new one (MWF)
  • Spelling: Spelling Workout D (MWF) [we skip a lesson if she passes a pre-test with 100%]
  • Composition: CAP W&R III M/W/F, EIW 4 (only the writing) T/R, then some of LToW in the spring
  • Literature: (MWF) -- Heidi (MP guide), Collodi's Pinnochio, HG Wells Time Machine, War of the Worlds, Blue Fairy Book (MP guide), The Secret Garden, Wind in the Willows (MP Guide), Beatrix Potter, MP Grammar Stage Poetry.
  • Memorization: poem memorization, probably with IEW's poetry guide (daily)
  • Logic: Logic Countdown, Logic Liftoff, Orbiting With Logic (daily)
  • History Memorization: US Constitution Preamble, Gettysburg Address, US Constitutional Amendments, US Presidents 1850-present, major US Wars 1850-present (daily)
  • Handwriting: Grace Song's Brush Pen Lettering (M/W/F) and Angela Lord's Creative Form Drawing (T/R)
  • Science: Pandia Press's RSO Astronomy Level 2 (12 weeks), Exploration Education (12 weeks), and Nitty Gritty Earth Science (12 weeks)
  • History: 5 day loop with SOTW 4 (3 days), with AG (questions, maps, some suggested books) supplemented with little bits & pieces from Teacher Created Materials, Inc.'s out of print Thematic Units (Industrial Revolution, Transcontinental Railroad, The Depression, Native Americans, WWI, WWII, Westward Ho, Immigration, Gold Rush, African Americans), looped with Kristin in VA's History of US schedule (1 day -- just read and oral narration), and WV history (1 day -- just read and oral narration).
  • Geography: MP's US States & Capitols (MWF)
  • Extras: 9 day loop of MCT Poetry (2 days), Harmony Fine Arts (3 days), Computer Projects, hand sewing/embroidery, health, and Lynne Seddon's Exploring Nature with Children.
  • G3 Scratch class in the autumn
  • swim gym MWF
  • piano lessons
  • Girl Scouts
  • possibly 4-H if we get a homeschool club going

  • 1 month later...

Just made major changes to my fourth grader's curriculum. School has become a massive struggle and we need to have a plan which fits this student.

Evals later this year, so possibly some help in terms of cbt, medication and other scaffolding to help him.

  • 2 weeks later...

English: continuing Wheeler's Elementary Speller (here are cards with the words on them for most lessons through 107, PDF, black & white, 8 on a page, print on card stock), Killgallon Sentences, and Dictation Day by Day, and we'll try out Don't Forget to Write Elementary & Daily Grammar Practice 4.

math: BA 4

Spanish: Descubre D, but tentatively planning to switch to Japanese in 5th

science: finishing BFSU 2

history: SOTW 4: Here are my wall timeline cards, if anybody else wants to use them. PDF, 8 on a page, print in color on card stock.

Various books to read independently & together, memory work, etc.

Probably continuing scouts and piano (although I'm open to a different instrument if he wants).

Change: We'll be doing Spelling You See Wild Tales. Dude can pick out the misspelled word from a list nicely at this point, but heaven help him if he needs to actually spell even basic words. I hope to keep Wheeler's also--we'll see how long the rest of the lineup takes.

Revised plans for my boy who would very much rather be building forts:

MM4    Rod and Staff Math 3   This boy needs a more back to basics approach.

FLL 4   Just going to review from FLL 3 for now. TC has enough grammar in the opening section.

Treasured Conversations

Kilgallon Sentences for Elementary

Latin for Children A    SSL 2    Keeping it very light this year. He has enough going on.

AAS 4

SOTW 3 with lots of literature

Science - life science, always lots of nature study, a little astronomy because of the eclipse in August

Art and drama tutorial

Always reading lots of excellent literature. Narnia this year!

Choir, piano, scouts, swimming

Testing for LDs and ADHD sometime this year. Revising our plan to keep him progressing, to strengthen weak areas, and to help him enjoy learning.

How do you schedule Kilgallon?
