Hospice experiences?

Still praying for you, Yael.  Strength, courage, tenderness, and peace.

Hospice may tell you that her hearing will be one of the last capacities to go, and you may get a glimpse into that as well.  Use that to your advantage to interact with her in ways that she would have found meaningful or soothing.

Update:

My sister, Nicole Monique McCoy (Spring), died at 2:09pm on Friday, January 20, 2017 surrounded by family and her best friend, Carmen.

She was unconscious from the time I got to her, but during that time, she did come up a little bit three times because she was choking on her mucus/saliva.  Each time she opened her eyes, unseeing but I saw she was in there, just not fully.  I held her hand and talked to her during those times.  One of the times, I told her the nurse was coming to help her and she nodded.   Then I told her I loved her and she nodded.  The nurse came in and suctioned her and while she was, my sister held up her finger as if to say wait a second.  I asked her if she wanted the nurse to stop for a second and she nodded.  The nurse stopped and she put her finger down.  Once it was all done, she fell back into unconsciousness.

On Friday, her best friend came back from a vacation and drove madly from Charlotte to see her.  She arrived and spent time with her.  I though it would be a great time to go to my parent's home to take a shower and get ready for Shabbos (Shabbat). My mom and I got about 2/3 of the way home when I got a phone call that we needed to come back right away.  I turned tail and sped back.  We got back within five minutes of her death and said our final goodbyes.

We made the phone call to the Bahai elders and they showed up in 30 minutes to unload the suitcase they prepared for the washing and preparation of the body.  That took about 40 minutes and then the funeral home came to pick up my sister's body.  I escorted her out of her room and left as Shabbos was on its way.

I got home with ten minutes to spare.  Pre-heated the oven, threw the salmon in the oven, took a shower and came to light candles.  My sister's last gift to me - I wasn't stuck in the hospice but got to go my parent's home and have time with them.

My sister's funeral is Sunday at 2pm at Westminster Gardens in Greensboro NC.  I would honored if any locals want to come.  May we only share happy times.

I'll be there in spirit - wishing I could be there in person.  I'm sorry your sister's life ended this way and way too soon/young.  Take care.   :grouphug:
