Halcyon
So far I have An American Odyssey, which I like a lot, Lies my Teacher Told Me, People's History of the United States, America: The Story of US dvds, and selections from A Different Mirror. Looking for a few more "selections"-type books, where I can pick and choose short essays and histories to intersperse throughout. THanks for ideas. swimmermom3
We enjoyed using the following: Opposing Viewpoints in American History: From Colonial Time to Reconstruction and it's 2nd volume While it is nearly as old as I am, I still like Daniel Boorstin's An American Primer, which has dozens have primary source documents covering the economic, political, and cultural spectrum through part of Johnson's presidency. There are corresponding essays written by prominent historians of that time.
