Kevin Rhoads
Background: My girls are 12 and 13. We've gone through some Spanish but not made much progress. I'm looking for a good Onilne Spanish program. Hopefully one with a tutor. The Oklahoma State program mentioned on a pinned posting on the Bilingual Forum was shut down in 2014. Currently, I'm leaning towards following the sequence set up by the MIT Open Course. It uses Destinos, specifically this textbook and workbook: -VanPatten, Marks, and Teschner. "DESTINOS." Text. McGraw Hill, 2002. -"DESTINOS." Workbook/Study Guide I. McGraw Hill, 2002, Lecciones 1-26. Does anyone have experience with Destinos? Does anyone have a program/book that they're really happy with? Thanks.
freesia
Have you looked at Homeschool Spanish Academy? It's Skype tutoring from Guatamala. We've been happy.
Angie in VA
I love Destinos. :001_wub: Sure, the shoulder pads in Raquel's wardrobe dates the series, but I think it's so good! I love that it takes place in so many different places and I love the lisp of Castillian Spanish. I have found Destinos books at thrift stores and am glad to have them to reinforce grammar, vocab and we always read the cultural lessons. I know enough Spanish to my dc teach using this series. There are many helps at the site: vocab, quizzes, resources, etc. Plus, there's Nuevos Destinos.
Jackie
I know nothing about Destinos, but can give another vote for Homeschool Spanish Academy. The classes are quite reasonably priced when bought in bulk.
Renai
Destinos is what we use to teach Spanish in the Virtual Homeschool Group. It is important to know that it is a college course, so should be slowed down. 1-26 is what is normally used for college Spanish I. That is a year-long high school class. There is the option of breaking into thirds. Our Spanish I is doing episodes 1-18, with some focused grammar weeks. You can watch the episodes for free on learner.org, but if using the MIT syllabus, there may already be a link. The text and workbook have some activities with audio. VHG have licensed permission to use them so students don't have to purchase the tapes, but I've found a link where the audios can be played. If you'd like it, let me know and I'll post it when I get back on my computer. Good luck.
hermione310
We have also used Homeschool Spanish Academy for at least 2 years now. We've had a great experience -- thorough teaching customized to the student, caring teachers that are patient and kind with kids.
