historymatters
I was hoping Tim Chambers could help you out.  I am linking his art place below.  He left Landry a while back to help Iguana paint.  He was an excellent teacher.  DD learned a lot from him.  However, it looks like there are only beginner classes offered at this time.  I am linking it anyway in case it might help someone else.  If I think of anything else or hear from anyone I will post.  https://www.iguanaacademy.com/   Thank you. Yes, it's just a basic course. There are two I can use from GC streaming via my Roku.  I did look at Potter's School, they have a few for the high school level, a couple that look promising. I am going to contact them to see what arrangements can be made since their cut-off dates for spring sem. have officially passed.

TCB
I run FundaFundaAcademy - we don't have nearly as many classes offered as Landry, but if any of you need help with the ones we do offer, I will work with our teachers and give you the best deal we can if you already purchased from Landry. If your children are 1/2 way through a full year course and the teacher isn't continuing we will work with you so they can transition to the second semester of our full year courses. Â We have classes for Biology 1, Spanish 1 and 2, Photography, Government, Scratch and Python Programming, Computer Applications (Digital Literacy), Economics, World Geography. Â Either pm me or email me (you can find the email on our website) Â I was wondering if you were considering adding more Spanish classes next year? I'm looking for Spanish IV for next year and have had 1 suggestion up-thread but all the other places offering classes suggested earlier seem to stop at Spanish II. crazyforlatin
Spanish 1-4 at Debra Bell, https://debrabell.com/product/spanish-1-3health/ Â I've looked at this place before but I'm not sure how combining all levels helps the advance students. Â DD's Spanish teacher at Landry emailed that she will be teaching somewhere else for 2017-2018, so I'll ask her where later.
Hunter
Anyone had their child in the Intermediate Art class? I was contacted by the Intro to Art teacher, but after comparing syllabi, she thinks my dd is too advanced. Any ideas would be appreciated.  I'll keep looking at the free options posted above. Didn't really have time yesterday.  BTW, my dd already uses Youtube "How to..." videos, but she needs more order and accountability. My co-op hasn't the option. My dd really didn'[t care too much for the Artistic Pursuits style. :banghead:  Thanks I have no drawing talent at all, but have been able to teach art in a way that students praise me for years later. One student claims I even saved her life with art. This is what I have used. Drawing Textbook is a book that is easy to schedule and stay on track with. There is a free PDF of an older edition here. And a field trip to a museum.  What I suggest is alternating a chunk of Drawing Textbook with a short unit on a topic such as journaling, figure drawing or color. Pick a distinct and short goal, such as reading How to Make a Journal of Your Life, lessons 1-6 in the Alon Bement figure drawing book, or the grade 1 Augsburg crayon paintings.  Let Drawing Textbook run the show. If that is all that gets done. Fine. That is something. When life lets you come for air, plan a short unit in something else. Keep it short. Have a clear goal. Than get back to Drawing Textbook.  Use art history videos when a crisis hits that you cannot teach. Plopping them in here and there may not provide the most amazing art history coverage, but it is something. It is more likely to get done when planned as crisis schooling than when trying to schedule it. Go figure. itsheresomewhere
Copying this-  Hello Landry Academy Families, To begin, I am sorry about Landry Academy closing its doors. Since I heard the rumors circulating, I have been praying for both Greg Landry as well as the Landry Academy families. With this said, I am writing to you to offer you another option. Open Tent Academy began as a dream over ten years ago. In November 2016, I decided it was time to make my dream a reality. OTA is myself rebranded (I have been teaching IEW Writing Classes online for 13 years - http://www.iewwritingteacher.com) in addition to other teachers, whom I know personally, teaching their specialties online. Personally, I have been in the field of education for 25+ years, homeschooling for 20+ years, offering homeschoolers classes for 13+ years, online education for homeschoolers for 10+ years..... My writing classes are always full with long waiting lists. With that said, Open Tent Academy did open its doors in November 2016 offering an inaugural semester with an abbreviated schedule of twenty classes for grades 3- 12 beginning the week of January 30, 2017. As stated, these classes are taught by myself in addition to other teaching professionals, who are experts as well as passionate about their subject matter with experience in the homeschooling and education world. The classes are integrated, interactive, live virtual classes. Before registering for anything, please contact me personally at eva@opententacademy.com as Landry Families' costs for ANY class will be MINIMAL during winter 2017. OTA will not make profit from Landry Families; you will only be charged what the teachers are being paid. Please email me, Eva Lynn Goldstein-Meola, at eva@opententacademy.com, for more information. Beginning March 1, 2017, registration for our 2017 - 2018 school year will begin. We will be offering 50+ classes for grades 3- 12. Please LIKE our FACEBOOK page as well take a look at our website (which is in the process of being updated) www.opententacademy.com. And please, note that our 2017 - 2018 offerings will be posted on our new website beginning mid-Feb 2017 with registration beginning on March 1, 2017. www.opententacademy.com. Finally, Landry teachers should contact me at eva@opententacademy.com if they want to consider teaching for OTA during the 2017 - 2018 school year. We are offering a competitive pay schedule. Please forward this to any Landry teacher you may have contact with. You all will remain in our prayers. I wish everyone a tremendous holiday season and a healthy and happy New Year. Respectfully,Eva Goldstein-Meola, M.Ed.Founder, Director and Teacher at Open Tent AcademyFounder, Director and Teacher at Writing Classes for Homeschoolers   This is started by a Jewish mom who had her DD left of things because they are Jewish.  It is secular.

mwittlans
Thank you for sharing Homeschool Connections as an option for families. We are praying for all those affected by the closing of Landry Academy.  Homeschool Connections typically closes registration for live courses one week before the first day of class. In order to help Landry families, we are will keep registration open until four days before a course starts. Note that start dates vary.  You are welcomed to use a $20-off coupon - early20 - if you choose to sign up for a live course.  My guess is that the recorded classes (through our Unlimited Access program) may be best way to go for many Landry families since it is much cheaper than live courses. Plus registration never closes for recorded courses. Unlimited Access is $1 the first 7 days. It is then $30 a month for the whole family for unlimited access to 270 recorded courses. You can cancel anytime. This way you don't have a big investment up front. And you can pick up the school year fairly easily, since courses are broken into semesters..  It is important to note that our classes are taught through a Catholic lens so that may not be the best fit for some. However, we are inclusive and invite everyone. We do have non-Catholics take courses with us, especially writing, math, and science. (Someone asked about creative writing -- we have an amazing fiction-writing series.)  Here is the registration page for live courses, https://reg129.imperisoft.com/HomeschoolConnectionsOnline/Search/Registration.aspx  Here's the Unlimited Access page, http://homeschoolconnectionsonline.com/unlimited-access-1  And the course catalogs, http://homeschoolconnectionsonline.com/courses-catalog  Don't hesitate for a second to let me know if you have questions or suggestions by emailing me at homeschoolconnections@gmail.com.

Garga
My kids aren't in Landry, though I had thought they would be in the future and I haven't read the entire thread, but I had found this link a few weeks ago that has an extensive list of dozens of online providers for various classes. Â Â I'm sorry if it's already been posted. Â I would cut and paste the info, but I'm not sure I'm allowed to do that by board rules. coffeefreak
I wanted to mention that BJU Press just had their $99 sale. It's not a live class, and you grade everything (except tests and quizzes for grades 5 and up), but it might be a viable option for some of you. The sale has ended, but if enough of you call and ask, they may be willing to reopen it for Landry Academy students. It doesn't hurt to ask.  Blessings and hugs to all of you.

Guest
For those of us using Latin Alive, not sure who can help. I have reached out to WHA, Schole Academy for those who use that curriculum but not holding my breath. Any other ideas I haven't thought of? VP is not going to work for us and the other mentioned in previous posts use Wheelocks too. :( Anyone else out there looking to figure out Latin? Might end up having to switch but to what? Other options are Henle and going MP route...but how do they compare? Uhh!! Any thoughts would be great for those up on their Latin more than I. :)You might try Duane Thomas (Visual Latin).  https://www.dwanethomas.com  ETA- maybe Roman Roads or Compass Classroom as well. historymatters
The German teacher (Faith Cruz) from Landry just posted on X-post Landry post...http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/632899-x-post-landry-academy-financial-problems/?p=7366487.  Here it is in copy form:  I am a (former) teacher at Landry, and I just stumbled on this thread. I teach German I and German 2. I plan to continue teaching to finish the year. But we were just told about the closing about an hour before parents - so I am praying about where/how to finish the year. If you need either of these courses, feel free to contact me. Faith Cruz   faith-full@juno.com  Landry is (was) full of wonderful teachers who are great at what they do & really love their students. The vast majority finished first semester without pay.  I am in prayer for the teachers, the students, and for Greg & his wife. I don't believe he intentionally did anything wrong. I think he must have had some poor business/tax advice.  This school was his life - it must be a devastating loss.
texasmama
Sra. Ana Carmona is my teens' Spanish 2 teacher and has copies of grades from last semester for her students. She is committed to finishing out the semester on a different platform. She sent an email today with information. She taught three Spanish 2 classes at Landry. Please pm me if you need her contact information. She is a kind teacher and has handled this situation with grace. I am beyond humbled at teachers remaining committed to students without being paid last semester. So many wonderful people involved here.
Mrs Twain
I wanted to mention that BJU Press just had their $99 sale. It's not a live class, and you grade everything (except tests and quizzes for grades 5 and up), but it might be a viable option for some of you. The sale has ended, but if enough of you call and ask, they may be willing to reopen it for Landry Academy students. It doesn't hurt to ask. Â Blessings and hugs to all of you. I think it may have been last year that BJU opened up the $99 deal for an additional week during the beginning of January. Certainly call or email them if you are interested in this. The DLO (distance learning online) courses my kids have taken through the $99 specials have been excellent.
Space station
Groovy kids offers very affordable, excellent classes. They are secular, so might not be what all LA customers would like, but it might be helpful for some. cjzimmer1
People were rude to Veritas, meaning during the live meeting last night?  yes, extremely. The email indicated there would be "extraordinary pricing" and a way to use generic credits purchased from Landry. As soon as people realized it was still going to cost them money to take classes at Veritas they started griping because they felt like the wording of the email and the amount of discounts actually offered was misleading.
TwoEdgedSword
Yes. They have no obligation to offer anything. But it seemed like much ado about nothing. It is nice to see other venues offering free platforms to the teachers.
klmama
Does anyone know of any plans for a continuation of the Landry accounting classes with Geoffrey McComb? I won't be able to teach that class, and I'd rather we didn't have to switch materials mid-stream. OneStepAtATime
Anyone that was already taking or intended to take classes with Chris Johnson (such as Photoshop) at Landry can now find those classes at Excelsior. Â Â http://excelsiorclasses.com/classes/#spring17 Â Looks like for this Spring semester classes through Excelsior will be $120 per course and registration fee may be waived but prices will go up for the fall.
LIVE Online Math
Hi all. Seems like this would be a good place to cross post what I posted to the Landry FB page yesterday.   In light of what's going on, LIVE Online Math (www.liveonlinemath.com) would like to provide three possible solutions/alternatives to former Landry families...  1.) FREE access to a LIVE Online Math Video Course (Algebra, Pre-Algebra, and/or Pre-Pre-Algebra) from now until the end of Summer 2017.  2.) We're open to the idea of creating a custom transition course(s) for the rest of this school year. Details of cost, schedule, class structure, etc. are fluid, but the link (below) has more info.  3.) Joining a Class or Video-Plus Course that is ongoing this school year. Seats remaining, schedule, pricing info., etc. can be found on the LIVE Online Math website.   To act on options 1 and 2 above, please check out more information using this link: http://liveonlinemath.com/forms/landry_transition_form.html  If you encounter any problems or have questions, please contact me at jbovey@liveonlinemath.com or 509-252-0888. Of course, feel free to cross post this to other groups/email lists in the Landry community.   Thanks and hoping everything ends up working out well for all concerned.  John Boveywww.liveonlinemath.com   P.S. LIVE Online Math is in its 9th year of operation and has grown each year. Testimonials and other information can be found on the website.   Take care and good luck!

Cathedral Builder
Geoffrey McComb is one of the few teachers who have not responded yet. Â He sent out his personal email address to students right as this all started crashing to the ground, though, so I believe he will eventually be in touch. Â Oh, he just made a long post on the Jeremiah facebook group! Â I am pasting below rather than linking: Â Accounting, technology, business, and math will continue for Spring 2017 & Beyond! I plan to create "at your own pace" learning for the following classes... Accounting: Part I Accounting: Part IIÂ Accounting: Advanced Concepts & Income Tax Prep Programming: Raspberry Pi Programming: Python First Programs Programming: Python Advanced Structure Programming: Minecraft with Python Programming: Visual Game Design Programming: C & System Software Physics: Conceptual Principles Part IIÂ Computer Literacy: Part I Computer Literacy: Part IIÂ Business: Legal, Ethical & Global Environment Business: Practical Math Applications How it Works! Each class "semester" will consist of 60 lessons released over 15 weeks. Each lesson includes a 10 minute video lecture, 15 minute reading assignment, homework assignment, and concept retention quiz. This will be "at your own pace" and students can slow down at points where they are struggling or speed through subjects they may already be familiar with. What About Live Class? I will also host live classes! These will be 30-45 minutes and allow students to ask questions, discuss concepts and meet one another. Many of these live classes will be bundled and be offered in sections of 20-30 students. (i.e. all programming courses will have a grand kickoff class and will meet periodically after then in their respective languages) Do you grade my homework & tests? There is no homework grade, however failing to complete your homework will result in an average of 50% reduction is the corresponding quiz for each lesson. The class will perform under a "drip" system. When you enroll lessons will be released on a timetable so you can not get "too far" ahead. Quizzes are graded, and there is a final exam at the end of the 60 lessons. Can I try it first? YES! You I will operate with a 30 day money back gaurantee! If you hate this class structure let me know within 30 days I will refund your enrollment cost! Is my payment safe? Of course, I will be using a third party service to receive and refund tuition. This same platform will host our class and once you have paid the course content is yours, forever! What about a book? Some classes we will follow a textbook, but many I have already written my own material and there will be no additonal book cost. The cost for ALL classes is $300.00 per 60 lessons. HOWEVER a special offer of $120.00 per 60 lessons for Landry families (I will send a coupon code). This offer will last from January 1st 2017 through December 31st 2018! I am excited to be able to teach your children for years to come. My class list will only grow from here. Look forward to an email in before January 9th with a link to register and begin class! OneStepAtATime
For anyone still looking for teachers, it appears that some additional teachers from LA may be joining Excelsior if they haven't already. Â Keep checking in at the Excelsior website (linked again below) and keep refreshing the page. Â Mrs. Rapelje (Art History) says that registration will close some time next week so if you are interested in those classes please contact Excelsior ASAP. Â It may take time for them to process through all the emails, though. Â Â http://excelsiorclasses.com/classes/#spring17
rjand6more
Faith Cruz(German teacher-Landry) sent this email:     Dear families,  Finally, a place to land -  Funcation Academy will be hosting our German 1 and German 2 classes for the spring semester.  The cost will be $38 per month from January to May paid through paypal. This cost will include membership to Funcation Academy which has many excellent homeschool resources.  Classes will begin on January 14 (for Wednesday classes) and January 15 (for Thursday classes).  Offerings: German I at 11 Eastern on Wednesday; German I at 1 Eastern on Thursday; German 2 at 3 Eastern on Thursday.  Tests and Homework will be in PowerSchool - so they will look just as they did last semester.  The classroom will take place in the Jigsaw platform. I have been playing with it today, and it seems easier / more intuitive than Adobe.  Recording links will be posted after each class for students who are unable to attend.  I welcome any students who were with Frau Keeting and would like to still have tests & homework.   .Funcation is setting up our classrooms / links this weekend. I will post links on Monday.  Will you please respond to give me an indication of how many student seats are needed.  With you on the way,    Faith Engroos Cruz  German teacher
Space station
Groovy kids offers very affordable, excellent classes. They are secular, so might not be what all LA customers would like, but it might be helpful for some.  http://www.onlineclassesforgroovykids.org/index.html  I messaged the director of Groovy Kids about the situation, and here is what she is offering to help those looking for classes for Spring.  You can register for any of her classes for the early bird pricing with the code PRXLP5RO4C3N, which is good until January 9th.  Also, If 6 or more organize a group and pick a day and time we can offer "Chocolate: RIches from the Rainforest" and "The Disappearing Spoon" for $125 per student and "Fantastic Beasts" and "Sparkers" for $150 per student. "Stowaway" would be $75 per student-as it is only 5 weeks. This would be dependent on if the instructor could teach the class during the requested time....but I know that the Stowaway teacher is up for another lesson, and I could step in and teach more, since all the courses we are offering are ready. Also, they wouldn't be able to use any other coupons if they did this group pricing, because this is really the absolute cheapest we can offer them.  She is willing to do a FB live event to discuss things.  She is also willing to help teachers that are looking for a platform to offer classes.  Groovy Kids is secular and inclusive.  All science classes touch on evolution as the currently accepted scientific theory, but they have no agenda to sway people from their faith and 2/3 of their directors are devout Christians.  Here is the website and the facebook group. http://www.onlineclassesforgroovykids.org/index.html https://www.facebook.com/Onlineclassesforgroovykids/

It is on the Jeremiah group on FB. There is at least one teacher not listed on there, Mrs. Rapelje teaching Art History through Excelsior, that I would like to get added.  Start date for classes is the week of January 9th.  Contact info: [email protected]<script data-cfhash='f9e31' type="text/javascript">/* */</script> (email address, not a website link).  She is still setting up a more direct email address through Excelsior but it isn't ready yet.  I have a personal email address that could be added to that list but do not feel comfortable posting it here on such a public site without her permission.  Class schedule is below (classes with be 90 minutes just like they were at Landry).  Registration fee for Excelsior has been waived for the Spring classes.  Class cost is half and is $120 per class.  Teacher will be paid directly, but Excelsior needs to know that you want a student registered.  Contact Excelsior this week.  Registration ends this week since classes start next week.  Art History of the Modern Era with Julie Rapelje (mature 8th grade Ă¢â‚¬â€œ 12th grade) Wednesdays @ 1:00 PM ET Medieval Art History Ă¢â‚¬â€œ Study and Experience with Julie Rapelje (mature 8th grade Ă¢â‚¬â€œ 12th grade) Wednesdays @ 11:00 AM ET How do I get that info added to the link above?  I am trying to join Jeremiah now, but it is still pending.  (I'm sure with all that has happened they are a bit inundated with requests.)  Dr. Sonya Brouillette, who taught some science classes, is also missing from that list. She has been in contact with students and intends to continue her classes but she is traveling for the next week and she has not yet established a new home.  She could at least be added as someone still intending to teach.  She is also in the process of trying to keep the Louisiana Equine Camp (scheduled originally for May) up and running and will provide more info as soon as she has it.  She is looking to probably shift start dates for her classes to January 16th instead of the 9th since she will not have internet access consistently while she is traveling on her Mission trip this week and does not yet have a platform to teach from.   Once I have more info, how do they get added?  Does the teacher have to add themselves? RootAnn
Okay, I'm trying to keep the first post updated with options & contact info. It is getting pretty hard to wade through.  Is there anyone else who is still looking for a continuing course, a teacher, or a free option for something they were taking or plan on taking? That way, people can see if they can help your specific needs.  Special thanks to those who are cross-posting from Facebook. Some of us aren't on there & we appreciate the spreading of the news. Hopefully, if people on FB don't have the same info we have on here, y'all are cross-posting with a link to this thread, too. :grouphug:
