Pegasus
I made some little cheesecakes (cupcake size) and left them on the counter to cool. When I returned later, one of them had clearly been licked repeatedly; about 1/3 of it was gone. I know the culprit and she is small, furry, and meows. I was both annoyed at the waste and pleased that she had stuck to licking just one and not sampling several of them. I tossed the licked one. Later, telling DH about it, he couldn't understand why I tossed it. He insists that he would have eaten it. So, would you toss or eat? Cinder
Eww--toss for sure. We have 2 cats and have to put them downstairs (ETA: basement) or else carefully guard the food because one of them will eat any and everything. :glare: Edited December 27, 2016 by Cinder
whitestavern
Ewww, no, I would not have eaten.
UCF612
I pretty much univerally answer these posts with NO! I wouldn't and this one is no different.
gardenmom5
toss.
itsheresomewhere
Tossed without a second thought.
SparklyUnicorn
I would have probably eaten it.
Annie G
No, I would not have eaten it. As cute as your kitty is, he uses his tongue to lick his butt. Tossing the cheesecake bit seems reasonable.

GailV
Toss. And wondered about the others -- were they maybe licked a teensy bit? Batted with a paw?
poppy
Do you know what cats do with their mouths? Mine kills shrews and birds, then baths herself all over. HECK no.
barnwife
My chickens or goats would have enjoyed it. Me? No way.
lmrich
My dh would have eaten it. He eats anything. I do not know why I even cook for him. He once ate a sandwich that had still had the paper from the cheese on it and did not notice. He ate my cheese-free pizza and did not notice there was something missing. He will routinely cut out mold and eat the bread - even when there is another loaf sitting there!

Gentlemommy
I would have tossed them all. Cats have very dirty mouths and I'd be afraid I wouldn't know if she licked more than one.
BarbecueMom
No, ew. That being said, I'm certain my cat occasionally gets into my water cup at night and I drink from it without realizing it. My cat loves anything dairy. Loves dropped shredded cheese. Licking a cheesecake is probably on her feline bucket list.

kitten18
I would have thrown that one out. I would eat all the others. Our dog ate about 1/4 of DS's b-day cake a few years ago. I trimmed away what he ate and frosted the rest. 😳 I probably would have tossed the whole thing but the kids are GF and I didn't have another GF cake mix.
Melissa in Australia
I would have thrown out the whole lot. Cats carry some nasty diseases. I would not have a cat in my house
mamaraby
I love my cats, but ew, no.
DawnM
I prob would have cut off the top half, past where they licked, and eaten the bottom. ETA: Just re-read your post. Since it was a small muffin size (didn't catch that the first time), I probably would have tossed it. I would have felt sick tossing a full cheesecake. foxbridgeacademy
No, not something that was so obviously licked.... but I do kiss her little face and offer her things that she will sniff and sometimes "taste" (she touches it with her closed mouth), then I will still eat it. DD eats after her but since Miss Mabel sleeps right next to her and is probably the most important thing in her life it's not surprising that they share food. I think a lot of it is in how you view the cat. Is she part of the family or just a pet? At least it makes a big difference here. AFAIK we've never gotten sick from Mabel (We all are sure to have had Toxoplasmosis long before this cat). I did recently give her my cold though, maybe she should consider not eating after me? LucyStoner
No way. And I almost always say yes to these threads. Same here. I have a stomach of steel. But the bacteria in a cat's mouth? No.freaking.way.

RegGuheert
I would have tossed it even though I, too, am a DH.
marbel
I would have thrown them all out, on the assumption that the cat may have sampled more than one. If I had a cat I wouldn't leave food uncovered where he/she could get it. When I had a dog I didn't leave food where he could get at it. Pegasus
I'm not surprised that most people would have tossed it. I'm a bit surprised that a few people would have tossed the whole batch, including the ones that looked unmolested. I'm pretty sure I could have eaten the licked cheesecake without getting sick. It just seemed gross and that's why I tossed it. Cats are germy creatures but so are children and we seem to eat after them without thinking about it.
AnnE-girl
My brother used to share food with our dog as a kid. It totally grossed me out. I would have tossed the cupcake without a second thought. We do let our cat lick our ice cream bowls after we are finished eating, but those go through the dishwasher on the sanitizing cycle. theelfqueen
Definitely not... but pets are not part of our life. I find sharing food and whatnot with pets nauseating. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
SquirrellyMama
I'm not sure what I would have done. I have eaten food after a cat licked it. Not sure if I'd eat it after the cat had eaten almost half of it. Eta: I really like cheesecake so that might up the odds that I would eat it :) Kelly Edited December 29, 2016 by SquirrellyMama
MercyA
I probably would have scraped off the licked part and eaten the rest. I absolutely wouldn't have tossed any of the others. I kiss my dog on the mouth. :D ETA: However--if a kid other than my own had licked it, I would have tossed it without a second thought. I suppose that says something about me. :) Edited December 29, 2016 by MercyA
mellifera33
I would have cut off the licked part and eaten the rest. When I think about it, a cat licks itself all over then goes and sits on the couch, on the bed, on the pillow--it's not like I haven't been exposed to cat spit in a million other ways. And ingesting some cat spit is entirely different than having cat spit injected into tissues via a bite. Eh. And to think that I used to be a germaphobe.
Serenade
Well, yesterday my dog helped herself to cookies I had on a little plate by an armchair. One cookie remained, but it appeared to be slightly damp. It went in the garbage, and I scrubbed the plate before putting new cookies on it. :-)
