zarabellesmom
Working through Barton and the hand motion for b and d reversals and it's really helping but she has a lot of trouble with reversing the letter z. Any tips?
caedmyn
Does she write 7s correctly? If she does you might try telling her to start it with a 7. DS8 has been reversing S a lot lately, and reminding him to start it with magic c (a HWOT concept, which technically doesn't apply to S but works anyway) helps him write it correctly. Or you could email Barton...she seems to have a suggestion for any problem.
PeterPan
Has she had an OT eval? That kind of reversal can indicate OT issues. Also look at EZ Write. She breaks all the writing into stroke components that you practice to automaticity. The automaticity and wording helps with the directionality issues and gives you a way to prompt. It's easy to make your own little posters for it and practice.

Lecka
For OT issues -- for example "crossing the midline." That can have to do with reversals and it seems like it can go along with dyslexia, too. Or in general, difficulty with handwriting in of itself can be an OT issue. My oldest son has dysgraphia and the kind of person to know about it is an OT.
geodob
Reversal of symmetrical letters, such as b and d are quite common. With z their could be a confusion with s. But something that you could look at, is how she forms z ? Whether it is formed by 3 straight lines, or is rounded? As highlighting the difference between the way that z and s are formed, could be helpful. With z being jagged, and s rounded.
zarabellesmom
She makes it with three straight lines and never reverses s. t's not that she's confused about which is which...Just can't get z going the right direction.
