Have you ever driven far to get a car?

In 2008 we bought a car with 146K miles ($1000)  off of Craiglist and traveled about 2.5 hours to get to it. It finally died this year after reaching almost 300K miles. 

 

Our replacement we found about 3 miles away off of Craigslist and paid about $1100. It had about 130K miles. We are hoping to get the same amount of miles this time -- not counting on it but hoping.

Do you have issues with your cars?  Do they end up in the shop a lot?

 

We drive our cars to about 200K miles, 15 years old, and then we move on.  But DH used to work on them.  He really doesn't have time now, so we need reliability.  I am working full time too now.

 

We either have time or money, never both it seems.

I know someone who flew from Texas to Florida to buy a Lincoln SUV from private seller, she found it online but I forget what website she used.

I don't know how much she paid but it was a very decent vehicle and they are still driving it 5 years later. True story. Everything was fine. She drove it back home alone.
