City Mouse
Asking for movie suggestions for a Boy Scout merit badge. They are working on Citizenship in the Community. #5 with the approval of your counselor and a parent, watch a movie that shows how the actions of one individual or group of individuals can have a positive effect on a community. Discuss how..... They are looking for a move to watch as a group. It has to be appropriate for a Boy Scout meeting in a church - probably only PG rating. Stacia
I was thinking Outcasts United had a film/documentary about it, but I'm not seeing one listed on the website. There is a YouTube video of the book being discussed, though. (Fwiw, I have not watched the video.) Not sure if that would work....
6packofun
Here you go: http://www.teachwithmovies.org/ethical-emphasis-index.htm You'll have to research them a bit yourself and some of them are pretty heavy, but it will get you started. Citizenship is one of the categories. I think Pay It Forward would work, although it's sort of sad.
Seasider
I think the old Follow Me Boys classic with Fred MacMurray is traditionally watched for this requirement.
Anne in CA
Our troop always did Erin Brockovich. I suppose the language and dress code are squishy but our scout master always thought it was good to point out that failure to watch out for your fellow citizens leads to situations like Hinkley. Serenade
We watched Gandhi. Great movie, but it's long. There are also some brutal scenes in it.
