moonlight
Can you all give me recommendations for beginning bow and arrows please? One for a 10 year old and the other one for a teenager. And where do you guys go to practice?? I'm out of the US, but would still like to gather ideas. Trying to put together a class for our homeschoolers here. Bambam
We have Genesis bows. https://www.amazon.com/RH-Black-Genesis-Original-Bow/dp/B01GVCVN7O It is important to determine if you are right-eyed or left-eyed before purchasing a bow. Kids and dad practice in back yard (large back yard with hill behind and 6' high fences, houses are far apart here). We made our own target out of a cardboard box, and a back stop out of an old bench swing frame and some outdoor fabric hanging over it. We've also practiced at the gun/archery range.
LuvToRead
Genesis bow is the official National Archery in the Schools program. It would be a good beginner bow. It is what my girls learned to shoot with. We live in the country, so we can shoot in our backyard.
Rachel
The Genesis bow is also what is used in 4H. If you live in another country you may want to see if there is a certain one used for competition. My son hasn't started archery yet but he did attend a camp at a school, they practiced in the school gym. For 4H he will practice at a local archery range. HS Mom in NC
You should test not only for being right eyed or left eyed, but also for foot dominance too. Our coaches did that first thing with each kid. Eye dominance and food dominance aren't always the same side for a person. Middle daughter's team practiced at an indoor archery range and an outdoor archery range.
theelfqueen
Genesis are a good starter. My kids are both recurve shooters primarily (JOAD). Youngest is a Barebow purist ...no sights, no balances, etc. I can't think what brand their risers are but one is using Mohegan limbs the other likes Samicks.
