teachermom2834
Ds will be in 9th next year. We primarily outsource core subjects for our high school students (online, co-op, de). 9th grade is too young for de here and this guy enjoys the online format. He currently has 5 WTMA classes but they are middle school level. He enjoys it and handles it well. I would like to sign him up for the full slate of courses with WTMA. I am concerned because I assume a big workload difference making the leap from middle school to high school level. Specifically what we would be looking at is : AOPS Geometry, Biology, Ancient History, Ancient Lit , and Expository Writing 3. He would likely take Spanish 2 at our co-op and we are familiar with the workload there and it is moderate. Thoughts? Anyone take a similar load? He enjoys online (my other kids couldn't have done that many online) but I admit the threads about the demands of the Biology course have me concerned. For reference: this year he has WTMA AOPS Algebra 1, Expository 2, SOTW Early Modern, Basic Grammar, and Socratic Discussion. I know the high school will be a definite step up. I am just hoping to hear from someone that has taken a similar high school load from WTMA and how it worked out.
Sleep-Deprived
Teachermom, hopefully someone with all their classes at WTMA will respond, but since no one has so far, I thought our experience might be helpful. My 9th grade son does not have all his online classes with WTMA but he is in the Biology class and has a somewhat similar load. He is taking Biology at WTMA, and through Veritas Press he is taking Omnibus IV Primary and Secondary (Ancient History, Ancient Lit and Theology), and Precalculus. He is doing Latin and Grammar at home. When he started the year he was also in Rhetoric I at WTMA - and that proved to be too much. So we dropped it and he has managed well without it. However it is a full load. If you are concerned about the Biology load, consider having him take the delayed course. My son had to do that because the time was too early in the day for us (we are on the west coast), but it has been a huge help having a couple extra days to complete the homework, discussion board posts, and labs. Your son would have the advantage that he is already familiar with the online format. My son had only taken one class online previously, so there was a definite learning curve for him.

Chanley
We do not use WTMA for everything. APs and Latin are still covered elsewhere. I did want to mention that I think AOPS Algebra 1 is the first section of a 2 year Algebra course. So Geometry may not be the next class in the sequence for AOPS. I could be wrong. I was unsure and knew that was something I would have to find out.
