dirty ethel rackham
Dd and I were rear ended on the hi g way this evening. We are ok - a little shaken up, but it has been a long night. 90 minute wait for the police because I gave them the wrong exit ramp info. Then we had to wait for a tow for the other car which was not drivable to get us off the expressway so that we could get an accident report. That is how we discovered that my car is not safe to drive (something with a rear wheel.) Then we waited over an hour for a tow for our car. In the meantime, a cute little skunk went scampering across the parking lot. Them I saw a car pull up beside another car, two people got out and seemed very happy to see each other and got into the back seat of one of the cars. I was kind of hoping that skunk we saw earlier was nearby and would do what skunks do. Karma and all that. We are on our way to the shop where our car will be towed to (25 mile tow is going to be really expensive. ) I have a headache and am really tired. But I am worried that I won't be able to sleep when I get home. (4 hours after the accident.) Any ideas? I don't want to replay this in my head. I need to sleep through those troublesome hot flashes. fraidycat
:grouphug: :grouphug: I highly recommend EFT to calm you down. It's clinically proven to calm your fight/flight stress response and lower cortisol levels. It's just tapping on acupresssure points while you are feeling your feels. There are tons of youtube videos to see the right spots to tap. I recommend Gary Craig, Brad Yates, Jessica Ortner or Margaret Lynch. The collarbone point is especially useful and easily accessible when laying down, trying to sleep.
Ellie
:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: First thing you should do in the morning is make an appointment with a chiropractor. Seriously. Because whiplash.

creekland
No advice to offer, but lots of :grouphug: . I'm glad you're the one telling us all about it. May total recovery go smoothly including finding a new vehicle if yours doesn't get fixed. :grouphug: I suspect it's going to be tough to get out of your mind until time passes a bit.

Seriously. Because whiplash. Absolutely. My neck was starting to stiffen up while we were waiting. It's a little sore this morning. I should be sleeping, but dh got up for work and I always have trouble falling back asleep. Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

KatieJ
I am so sorry. My DH hit a deer recently, totaling his car and requiring a trip to the hospital via ambulance. It was airbag trauma thankfully. He did have severe whiplash on an already troublesome neck. He saw our chiropractor every day that next week. He was very quickly put back on the road to feeling good because of that. He did talk about closing his eyes and seeing that deer for that first week, but it has since passed.

I find myself gasping at the smallest things and then reminding myself that we are all ok. My executive function skulls almost nonexistent today. I'm glad the insurance people are taking care of everything and walking me through the process. Otherwise I'd be calling them back every 5 minutes. I feel so fortunate that it wasn't worse. I am so glad my 16 year old daughter is such a trouper. She really held things together, calling my husband to walk me through what to do. She exchanged info of the other driver while I was on the phone with the police. That meant we could text her and not have to be out of our cars trying to talk while traffic was whizzing past. I am glad that the other driver is ok and that her husband was able to come and so she wasn't alone while we waited. I'm glad that the other person's tow truck driver noticed a more serious problem on our car and that I didn't attempt to drive it home (25 miles, mostly on expressways.) Give yourself some time to rest, decompress , whatever you need today. It's stressful to go thru. My DH had to get ready for a business trip to Germany, so,work was a priority, but he made time to get to the chiropractor every day. I mostly handled the insurance company , altho he when to the tow yard and dealt with his car. I think he wanted to say goodbye...;) he'd been driving that car for 10 years. It will get better ! Guest
:grouphug: I don't blame you for being jumpy! I would be jumpy too after that kind of night. Hope you can get some deep breaths in today and time to process and rest.
FaithManor
So sorry. You will need to be scene by an MD too. Car insurance companies in most states do not accept chiropractic doctors reports as proof of injury. If you see an MD and he/she says, ya...you have a little whiplash or whatever, then the insurance company has to pay your medical expenses. I hope you are okay. I have known of people who suffered terribly of back and neck problems from car accidents, but didn't get the correct documentation within 24 hours of the accident so could not get treatment paid for. Rest a lot, hydrate a lot, take advil for its anti-inflammatory agent.
gardenmom5
keep in mind soft tissue injuries may not show up for a few days. my shiatsu therapist said it is also common for an accident to cause muscle spasms in the torso - easily treated to get them to relax, but it can have a progressively negative effect. (this after MONTHS of struggling to recover from what was otherwise a minor accident that messed up my leg.) one thing you can do - make sure you are breathing from the abdomen/diaphragm. My state accepts chiros- and I had more confidence in him than my regular dr. I felt fine afterwards - just shaky. it was hours before I realized I had noticeable loss of strength and function in my leg - that got worse before it finally started getting better. dh went to urgent care right his - and they missed a broken bone in his ankle. it was two weeks before it was diagnosed. this is a shock to the system - being tired is normal. don't sign anything until you are absolutely sure you're fine and made whole.

Doctors missed a neck fracture on me in my teens. Plus, they would likely only give me a scrip for pain and send me on my way. My chiropractor is more sports medicine based, so he will do a full evaluation and he has massage therapy and PT on site. Noticeably his hand. It was all soft tissue injury and resolved just fine.

Chiropractors see things differently on the x-ray than medical doctors. It's good that you are going *now.* :grouphug:
JFSinIL
Yes, please see your family doctor or go to Urgent Care and get checked out. Your insurance will cover it and then they will get reimbursed from the other person's insurance. You may well feel worse tomorrow, alas (although hope not). Have dd checked out, too. Seriously. (Said the woman who has been in two car crashes now).
dirty ethel rackham
I went to my chiropractor this afternoon. The x-rays showed some aggravation of a preexisting condition in my neck. We compared x-rays with some from a couple of years ago and saw some concerning changes in the c-5 area. I'll be going back a several times this week and will be laying off some of my more strenuous activity. FaithManor
Ethel, I hope you get relief. You might want to consider therapeutic massage. I had so much inflammation from the car accident that vetebra out of place could not be moved. Car insurance wss not required to covet massage and our medical insurance also offered no coverage so I had to pay out of pockrt, but it was worth every penny.
happypamama
If your auto insurance has roadside assistance as part of your policy, take them the tow bill, and see if they'll reimburse you for part or all of it. So sorry about the accident. I hope you are back to normal soon!

Ordinarily, he would have recommended it (covered or not) but he is more concerned with structural issues and we need make sure that settles down before tissue work. I do have movement so we were able to do an adjustment. Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
