6packofun
Do scouts individually get the proceeds from their OWN popcorn sales or does it all go into one troop pot and distributed? Just curious! Can't seem to find this info.
mommybee
In our troop the boys get a percentage of the amount they sell into their scout accounts. I wouldn't want to split it up like that cause the selling is hard and very time consuming. It takes a lot of effort.
HomeAgain
I think it depends on the troop. In ours, the breakdown is like this - 73% goes toward local scouting. Out of that, 40% goes to the council/district, 33% to the troop, which is then split between the boy's scout account and the troop funds. The numbers are probably off some, but that's about the gist. QueenCat
Our troop put about half of what the troop got back into troop funds and the other half into individual Scout funds. The Scout funds could be used for annual dues, summer camp, camping trips, and other similar activities.

Loowit
Our pack and troop no longer have individual accounts for scouts after a notice went out a few years ago from council regarding individual scout accounts. All money earned via fundraisers go directly into the troop/pack account. Scouts are able to earn points towards a scholarship system for doing different things like participating in outings and fundraisers, earning ranks/merit badges, etc. So far we have not had any problems with active scouts not having money to go to camp which where the majority of funds raised goes. Before we dropped individual accounts the money was split between the boys and the pack/troop. Fundraisers help to lower dues and cover operating costs like recharter, badges, awards, etc.
Renthead Mommy
I just finished running popcorn. In our troop when you work popcorn sales out in front of places like Walmart we have sales and donations. In the end I total up all the hours worked, and divide their total sales, and their donations each by the total of hours worked. Then the boys each get paid by the hour. This is so the kid working an 8-10 shift on a non pay day weekend, doesn't get less than the kid working the super busy 12-2 on a pay day weekend. It is all evens out. Donations are split 95% scouts, 5% to our troop. Troops have expenses, like supplies, trailers, registration, insurance. Plus our troop also pays for all camping trips except for scout week long camp. Kids only have to pay for food on weekend trips. When the kids sell take order popcorn, they get the full scout earnings in their own account. No sharing of those sales.
Plateau Mama
In our Cub Scout pack it goes to the pack and covers all expenses except registration. In our Boy Scout troop 100% goes to the boy. There have been several years that DS has paid for camp with his popcorn sales.
ScoutTN
Ds' Cub Scout pack - 90% to the pack and 10% to the boys in cash, no individual accounts.
73349
Our Cub Scout pack: ~30% of the retail price goes to the pack, the rest I guess to the council and higher, minus a small gift card to boys who reach certain sales levels. Like a PP said, boys who sell in front of stores are credited with having sold an equal percentage of what sold. We were told each boy should sell $400 in popcorn or get $130 in donations to the pack. This covers campground rentals, badges, activities and supplies for the year. mamakelly
I think our Boy Scouts got 40% of their sales into their scout account. frankly, I much prefer it that way anyways. The boys who work their butts off and sell popcorn like crazy have plenty of money to pay for summer camp. The ones who don't sell anything have no money for camp.
