BlsdMama
Against my better judgment I googled, lol. Needles, it involves needles. :P Now, I'm not afraid of needles, I just recognize that they hurt. Has anyone had one, specifically on the legs? If so, were they BIG needles? It's okay to laugh at me, I'm nervously smirking myself. :P :D
JoJosMom
I have had at least one that I remember, but it was on my arm. I would describe it as uncomfortable. For reference, I have a high pain tolerance but am TERRIFIED of needles. HTH. ETA: I'm not sure about the size of the needle. I couldn't look. For some reason they wanted me to remain conscious. :o Edited October 21, 2016 by JoJosMom
Janeway
I hate needles and pain, but oddly, the EMG wasn't so bad.
Jean in Newcastle
I've had one. The needles weren't bad. I did feel the electric shock strongly though and that was highly uncomfortable. But in my case, I have overactive nerves instead of the other way around.
Kassia
I had it done on both arms about ten years ago and it was an awful experience. I'm not afraid of needles and have a high pain tolerance, but I do get queasy with certain medical procedures. I would never do it again. JFSinIL
I have had two in my arms (both to find out I do NOT have carpel tunnel). The needles are tiny and no big deal. Some of the brief electric jolts are uncomfortable. Overall it is not a bad or scary procedure. Just annoying ("you zap me one more time and I am grabbing that apparatus and zapping YOU, doc!" I felt like saying)."
Tap
Dd18 just had it done last month. It was really hard on her. She lives in chronic pain and was already hurting before the procedure. They did her leg, arm and back. She hung in there and stuck it out. but it was mentally taxing as well as very painful. They leg one was the worst for her. The test essentially made her leg muscle cramp up. Then she had to hold her leg in certain positions while the needle was in place and during a leg cramp. Her leg hurt for quite a while after the procedure. The arm test was not a big deal. The back was difficult because the doctor couldn't get dds back to hold the muscle flexed in one place for long enough, so she had to try several different sites/back positions. (experienced doctor, this is just part of dds back issue). The post-procedure achiness lasted several days but to fair Acupuncture also flares up dds pain. The acupuncturist says this is very uncommon, so it could just be a manifestation of dds pain issue. After all of the testing....we got an all clear from the EMG, but that also added to dds stress because we were hoping that it would give us some answers. sbgrace
I found it uncomfortable. I wouldn't call it painful. It wasn't the needles that were uncomfortable, but the shocks. I've had far worse procedures.
