Janeway
I woke up today just sort of feeling mish mushy. It is just that time of year. Every day, we do a lesson of math, a lesson of spelling, a lesson of writing, do some reading, try to throw in some French, that is our mornings. Afternoons we do other things. We start our school year year in July. It is now late October. I am so bored! I have that mucky-"don't want a break" but "tired of what we are doing" feeling. I just do not look forward to the next day anymore. I do not get out of bed happy to start the day right now. What do you all do when you hit this place? I know I would love to change our school to being more of a block schedule, but the kids are not interested. They say they like it just fine how it is. But I can see them sort of dragging now too. <sigh>
marbel
When this hit our house, we changed something in our routines. Fall and the cooler weather was a great time. (If you have cooler weather where you live.) We started having teatime in the afternoon, usually with a read aloud. We did this almost through high school, I think my youngest's sophomore year was the last we were able to fit it in. Last week when the weather really cooled off one of the kids said "I wish we had a book going." Oh well. That time is past for us. You have a bigger age range than I do so books might be a little trickier, but maybe not. We'd keep that up through winter and then when the weather warmed up, we'd start doing some of our work outside. Impromptu field trips can be good, though they can get more difficult during the high school years. Do you have leaves to rake? Half an hour of exercise raking and then coming in for a warm drink can energize people. Edited October 19, 2016 by marbel
MerryAtHope
I found that something to look forward to (like a trip to the Apple Orchard and fresh, hot donuts, or another fall field trip) could help. I also found that having a read-aloud I looked forward to helped when some of the other subjects were more mundane--so make sure you find some stories you'll all love for read-alouds (I often mixed in my favorites from my childhood that I wanted to share with my kids, or "just fun" books I found from other homeschool threads, to mix into our curriculum for added fun, or even to sub for a more serious book if I didn't really want to do it). I think I am going to tick off everyone I know and start decorating for Christmas..LOL..that is all I can come up with!
marbel
Are there any good museums around that you can visit? Something that ties in with your studies? Art, history, science... ? I know you have little ones so it might not be super easy. But the older kids can go off on their own, maybe. I don't recommend starting Christmas already. LOL. Are you in the US? Thanksgiving projects? Oh, NaNoWriMo is coming up. Maybe your older kids would like that? We had two great Novembers doing this. National Novel Writing Month; I can't link on this device but you can google it.
