What parts on the PSAT should dd NOT fill in if we do NOT want her info to go to colleges?

Recommended Posts

According to the info on the College Board Student Search Service web page, on question #7a of the PSAT, fill in the bubble for "NO" if you do NOT wish to receive college info. (On that webpage, click on the clickable link for "PSAT/NMSQT and PSSS (Preliminary SAT Scoring Service) to see what that will look like on the actual test answer page.)

Additionally, here is the "opt out" option on the College Board website, if you said "yes" and then later changed your mind.

...But do colleges get her PSAT scores? Is there a way to opt out of colleges seeing her PSAT scores?

No -- PSAT scores do not go to colleges to begin with. So no need for opting out. From College Board's web page on the SAT Suite Assessments (and the PSAT is one of these assessments):

"Colleges Don’t Receive Scores

The College Board does not send PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10 scores to colleges. These scores are not intended to be part of college admission decisions. They should not be included on student transcripts that will be reproduced and sent to colleges unless the student (if 18 or older) or parent/guardian has granted permission. You are allowed to withhold scores from college admission and athletic offices, even when colleges ask for them."

PSAT scores ARE sent to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in order for semi-finalists and finalists to be named, and for scholarships to be awarded. You can opt out by writing to the PSAT/NMSQT program. From that same webpage linked above:

"The College Board sends PSAT/NMSQT scores to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), the test’s cosponsor... PSAT/NMSQT scores are automatically sent to these scholarship and recognition programs:

• National Hispanic Recognition Program

• National Scholarship Service

• Telluride Seminar Scholarships

If you don’t want your scores released to these organizations, write to the PSAT/NMSQT program by Oct. 31 at this address: P.O. Box 6720  /  Princeton, NJ 08541-6720."
