Some options for Cognitive Brain Studies

I've been asked what sources one can use to see some of the brain studies info I have...  I can recommend a couple that are great for the "beginner", and I'm sure there are more, so feel free to add.

 

Be sure one gets CURRENT info - these studies and information are ongoing and sometimes change.  This is one area of study where I'd be wary of studying from sources more than 10 years old.

 

When my kids were growing up and interested we watched oodles of "Brain" documentaries on channels like Science and Discovery.  As high schoolers they also studied Psychology and Anatomy.  Now we get really inside info on parts from my "Brain & Cognitive Science major" son whose classes often discuss things "not yet in textbooks," but still, there are some cool options available to all if the topic interests you or any of your students.  If "hooked" from these, then start looking more at some of the brain anatomy and inner workings options.

 

The PBS series (6 episodes), The Brain by David Eagleman is one I recommend:

I've also shown these at school and found many students love them, so it's not "just" my family.

 

The Nat Geo series Brain Games is also really fun and informative:

For those who like books with info, (though some of this is subjective based upon studies), this is one my boys liked:

All of these sources came after we, personally, were finished homeschooling, but the topic remains one of high interest in our family.  I've no idea if those we watched before are still on or not, but considering the "ongoing study" aspect of this, it's probably a good idea to stick with the newer options anyway.

 

Since many of you are still in the trenches of homeschooling and there are some Boardies interested, definitely feel free to add other options if you know of them.  This is not just a "Creekland" thread.  I just started it due to someone asking, then suggesting it.  ;)

 

Our brains are an amazing organ.  Understanding more about ourselves and why we are who we are is such an interesting study. I'll admit a little envy wishing I could sit in on middle son's classes sometimes.  I can live without the research papers and tests though.  I'm at the point in my life where I just like the "results."  :coolgleamA:

Coursera has offered some interesting classes on the topic in the past. We also enjoy some of the materials published by The Great Courses.
